Text limits??

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Text limits??

Post by David boutwell »

To anyone's knowledge, is there a limit to the amount of text that can be placed onto a map. I am designing a large Arnhem map, complete with labeled key buildings and streets, and it seems that the amount of text that I can use has been limited to the amount that I've used up to now. The only pproblem is that I've got a lot more to do. I tried deleting less important text, and I was then able to create more text, up to the amountthat I'd deleted. Any ideas??

Just click in the hex below or to the right and continue your text.
That is how I do it.

I think what David is asking is "Is there a limit to the number of instances of text on a map". ie, (exagerated for clarity) can you have a map of a town with hundreds of buildings, streets, significant points & label them all or are you limited to 30?, 100?, 500? individual text labels in a given map file? is there a limit (other than asthetic) to how many xxx (text, trenches, gullys, cliffs, etc.) may be put in a map file?

I don't have a clue.

Thanks Bonzo! That's exactly what I wanted to know. After a week of teaching Earth and Space Sciences to 9th graders, my thought process can sometimes be a little worn out. Grading tons of papers (and herding a 16 month-old) also severely cuts into my scenario construction time. That's why it's even more important to figure out this problem. When I'm stumped on something, I waste loads of time trying to figure it out...

I think here then aesthetics become an issue. Too many texts on a map take away from it. That is my personal view.

I usually put in the directions (N-S-E-W) label a few roads and populated areas and any particular item that would be of value to the player and let it go at that.

Some labeling is good. Too much is distracting.

And I guess that is why I don't know. I've never pushed it that far. I don't see why you couldn't label every hex on the map really. I don't know that there is a limit.

Yes, there's a limit. I can't remember what it is but I've reached it and so have you.

I don't think there's a limit on any other terrain though.
