Reinstall error

Post by Prussia »

Hi all:

Installed originally from Matrix download purchase- updated to 1.04, and playing with much gusto and fun. Decided to update to 1.05 beta- and since 1.00 didn't really install correctly outside of Games/CW2, and was all over the place in my Matrix folder, I decided to uninstall and start clean from scratch.

Of course now it won't reinstall, even under Admin priviledges; gives the error: "Another program is currently using this file". This is coming from my C:\Users\xxx\Appdata\Local\Temp\_ir_sf_temp_0 directory. Substitute the "...temp_0" with number of choice corresponding to the number of times I attempt to install. The files are irsetup.exe or irsetup.exe and a lau or lua file.

On Win 8.1 with 2560x1440 screen setting and 16 gig memory.

Haven't seen an install error like this since the early days of Rome TW (1).

Going to clean out my registry...hopefully that might help.

Thanks in advance for looking and/or assisting.

Kind regards

Further info- did 1.0, then 1.03 and was running 1.04 without any problem.

Have the steam version but did not uninstall that one.

Thanks again.

Hi JCL,

Boot Windows in safe mode and reinstall the game.

If you don't know how to boot Windows in safe mode please take a look at the guide presented on the site below:

Thanks all for the suggestions: reinstalled on another drive, with installer off the C drive: and that seemed to work and/or shutting down Firefox- which seemed to want to keep a temp file in the same place as ACW II's installer wanted to place a temp file. Wasn't a 100 percent comfortable with the install, so I took VPaulus' advice and did a safe mode re-install and that is working perfectly. Thank you VPaulus!!!
