AAV-7

Post by JohnOsb »

I need some help, I have a lot of side views of vehicles but I haven't a clue on how to trim them and make them the size that will work in Red Storm.

Image

Could someone be so kind and to explain in laymen's term on how it is done.
I would like to work on a US Marine Database after I finish the NATP/Warsaw Pact Database.

John,

Check out Mod Guide 3. It has the info on the file formats and sizes and naming conventions to make the images work in game.

Are you trying to make black sils for the counters? What paint/image software do you use?

John, here they are.

The attached zip file has one folder with color variants and another folder with b/w variants.

Pls let me know whether they work for you.

Excellent work, thank you so much. Now If you could be so kind on how you did it and what paint program did you use?

I have a lot more that I want to do myself. I hate asking for help from other people when I have the time to do it myself.

I know you have to resize the screenshot to the size of 128x64 but when I do it, it looks like crap.

I also place the US Flag on it as I did for the rest of the side silhouettes.

I used GIMP (2.8 for Windows). It's a powerful but also fairly complex tool.
First I measured the size of the vehicles, and figured out I'd need to scale down the original image to 50% to make the vehicles fit within a 128x64 pixel box.
Next, I changed the canvas size to 64 pixel high while keeping the vehicles in view.
Then I put a selection box around each of the AAV variants, changed the box until it was 128 wide, with the vehicle in the center, and cropped the image (so it became 128x64). File export as bmp.
The left hand vehicle was an exception, lacking sufficient margin on the left. So I cut a smaller image, updated the canvas to 128 wide on the left side, then painted the new area white.

Paint.net is also a good program that is free and has less of a learning curve than GIMP from what I've been told.
