Research station bonus locations

Post by jacozilla »

I come across these randomly it seems. Although fairly consistent, not always, but usually have at least 1 spot somewhere in my home start system with a research bonus.

Question is twofold:

A) what is an easy / easier way to find that I have an opportunity to build a research station at a good, or if already have one, found a better spot? The research adviser only nags to build my first set of stations or all-in-one design I sometimes use. I don't get a message saying for example my explorer found a really great +36% bonus site when I'm currently using a no bonus or much lower bonus site

b) if I can't get automation above message re: better site found, how is most efficient way for my to scan my empire periodically to check what bonus sites I may have?

Only way I can do the above right now is just manually click in each system and laboriously go through each planet / moon one by one.

With not that many games played yet, not sure if it is random or not but so far my research bonuses seem to show up more on gas planets than normal planets or moons? Does that sound right?

The inset sector map at the bottom right - one of the buttons across the top will illuminate all systems with a research bonus (at work right now so I don't recall which). Clicking on the star system will then show you the size of the bonus and for which research area in the system summary window in the bottom left.

If you want to select that system to build a research base, you then have to zoom in to the system figure out exactly which stellar body has the bonus.

Note, however, that it's rare that building remote research bases are worth it. Read through these to see how research bonuses are calculated:

Also, one of the buttons on the left edge of the screen highlights research locations. There are various choices there that gives you a list with the details an a useful highlight of where the location is. Research, resort, and colony locations are three tings that are accessible that way.

Argh and omg twice. Those are two incredibly useful function groups I hadn't even seen or used yet. Well, I guess saw but not really saw.

Tyvm, soon much easier to see where to build bonus, resort, etc locations now.

That left vertical pane is kinda faded out so I vaguely knew it was there but hadn't checked it out till now, really really useful.

And that pulse yellow circle it makes on the small lower right map when i click bonus on/off easily shows all the locations. If there was ever a top 10 noob things someone should know to make their life incredibly easier, I'd for sure add this. Reduces a ton of the micromanagement of scouting locations
