Not enough memory on video card message

Post by VonHeffy »

I launch the game and can choose the scenario and select a side. When I hit OK button a message pops up and says "Failed to create LOS image (2480x5310 pixels)due to not enough GRAPHICS memory on the video card. Tigers on the Hunt will now terminate."

I have tried different resolutions, run in compatibility mode and run as administrator.
Not sure what to do next. I have a Win 7 32bit with a NVidia GT760 graphics card.
All other games run fine.

Hmm, I haven't seen this error message in ages. Can you reinstall the latest video card driver and let me know how it went.

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

is it a dual gpu setup? eg intel onboard + addon card GT760?

Open the Nvidia Control Panel and locate Manage 3D Settings. Change, in both Global and Program, the Preferred Graphics Processor to High Performance NVIDIA Processor.

This game should work with the Nvidia Gtx 760. I had this same card in my system until last week - 3 years and it still works. I would make sure you update drivers and make sure nothing else is operating in the background. Should definitely run, good luck and hope you get it going.

I uninstalled the video driver with a utility and installed fresh. Without the driver the game loads and runs ok. Once I load the driver I still get the original error. I looked for the 3D suggested choices with no success. Also found the System video memory value at 0 MB with everything on the video card

I'm running the game on a 760 GTX on my desktop computer and on a 750m GT on my Laptop. It looks like you are running on a Laptop (i'm guessing here). I suggest that you dedicate the Nvidia card to the game following this guide: Preferred graphics card

Otherwise Follow Zakblods post above and make a Dxdiag report for us and we can get more clues on whats going on.

I can't see anything strange in the Dxdiag, it's actually very close to my setup, GTX 760 and AMD FX-8350 but I use windows 10. So it works fine using the Microsoft standard driver but won't work with the Nvidia driver. There is a new Nvidia version as of dcember 1st. You could start to try updating that. Otherwise I have no immediate thought. Perhaps someone else could chip in here? I'll do some more thinking as well.

You could also try to force the game to use your resolution. Run the game in windowed mode, edit the configuration.ini file that is located in your Tigers on the Hunt folder using windows notepad (do not use MS word) and change the following:

Windowed=Yes
Sizex=1920
Sizey=1080

then save the changes to the file and run the game.

pc is using a 32bit version of windows 7, but has

Memory: 4096MB RAM installed, plus some of this is shared with the video card...
Display Memory: 3518 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1989 MB
Shared Memory: 1529 MB

a 32bit O/S can only use at max 4 GB, so you have installed up to 4 GB, and I will be able to use about 3.5 GB of it, minus the amount of card ram, as it's totally system ram with a 32bit O/S
With a 256MB graphics card about 3.3-3.5GB of RAM can be addressed and used, assuming you have 4GB fitted.
If you fit a graphics card with 1GB of memory only about 2.6-2.8GB of the RAM would be addressable and usable.

using the PAE kernel you may get some more use, but that's only if the program and app, motherboard and bios and a mix or hardware is all fully compatible, best and easiest option is use a 64bit O/S, where you wouldn't have or get this issue

Code: Select all

I changed the Comfig.ini file and nothing changed. I have tried multiple flavors of backward compatibility.
The weird thing is if I reboot and start the game, it has no error and I can play it. If I close it and reopen, I get the video memory error.
64bit is on my roadmap to convert to, but not high priority for me at this time.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Make sure that in your Nvidia control panel you have the DSR Factors turned Off.
It shouldn't make a difference with this game, but who knows.
