bomber fire

Post by decourcy2 »

This is pointless on an old game but I have noticed that bombers for all practical purposes never hit fighters. This is a serious hit to the Allies as the American bombers did at least damage many Japanese aircraft.

Does anyone have different results? Anyone know the reasoning behind this iteration of bomber fire?

Thanks,
Mike

IMHO and experience the Allies do knock down and damage fighters. I play Japanese side. Mostly the bombers damage and only rarely knockdown a fighter.
What version of the game?
What scenario are you using?

You need more experience with the game and you will see that allied bombers, particularly 4 engine bombers are very hard on Japanese interceptors.

If you peruse the forum enough you can find multiple threads of JFBs whining over American bomber aces.

Early on in the game the Allies have very few skilled pilots. As the war progresses and your pilot skills go up you will see increasing effects of bombers shooting down fighters.

You are late to the party. The glory days of 2009-2011, when 4E aces ruled supreme... The whining, the whining!

I am glad that people were getting different results; I was just testing scen 1, different air combat routines to see results. I was mostly looking at fighters, but I threw a few bombers in for variety. This was a small sample size but I didn't have a single Japanese fighter damaged by bombers. I am glad it was just an outlier.

Thanks for the responses.

Not damage, but you should see some " X driven away by defensive fire" messages.

In one of my PBEMs I have a B-17 ace in May '42. Playing DBB #28 with recent beta. The squadron has a 60 exp level but I can't remember the exp level of that particular plane.

Yed, but did they shoot down any Nates? I never seem to score a hit on them when shooting B-17's MGs.

I have lost scores of night-fighters downed by Allied bombers - with little to show for in return.

Just had an large air attack with about 60 American mediums that hit a base in 1944. Did not have escort and got jumped by Jacks. I lost a dozen but the bombers in turn shot down "six" Jacks. These were high experience crews with high defensive values and I admit a rare event. However, bombers will damage and force fighters to withdraw. Yes, it is also true, Japanese bombers rarely shoot down anything.
