Modifying Save Game files?

Post by 76mm »

Can someone with the game tell us about the possibility (or lack thereof) of modifying save-game files for this game (to create meta-campaigns for other games)? Or the ability to import/export data?

Hi Tom ! I don't recall that this was changed from TOAW III. You can still save a Save file as a Scenario in order to open it in the Editor and make changes. However, this is really only for testing/troubleshooting, as the result will most likely not be playable.

I believe you and everything, I just want to understand. Won't be playable why?
We've all heard how computers can beat humans at anything computational but I've yet to meet a computer that can beat me at kick boxing.

Oh sorry, I missed the obvious, that my statement would lead to that question! The main thing is that the scenario calendar will be reset so that the save turn will now be turn 1. This will usually throw other stuff off.

Thanks, although that is disappointing, I had high hopes for this aspect of the game. IIRC at one point Curtis said that there as some sort of import/export feature built in, but it was being taken out...

Does anyone know if TAOW uses the same kind of XML as TAOW III? Again, IIRC that XML was rather unstructured and so difficult to work with.

The Trusted PBEM option was retained. So, you can load saved games into the Editor IF they were generated via Hotseat or legacy PBEM. (Not if by PBEM++).

And Steve just means that they won't work without Editor modification. You'll have to muck with them in the editor to get the turn numbers corrected.

Great, thanks for the info.

Any info about the XML? I seem to recall reading somewhere that the XML would be rejiggered in TOAW IV, and that as a result it might be easier to work with.
