Is the resolution hardcoded or is there a way to change to lets say 1920x1080?

The short answer is No.

But ...

You can use this program - DxWnd - which will allow you to play SPWaW in a window, of whatever size you desire. I have mine set to use a bi-linear Filter which seems to improve the resolution a bit.
If you have a stupidly powerful computer, there are other Filters available that can show an improvement.

I don't have a link handy on how to set it up, but a quick look this forum will get you started. If you'd like some help, lemme know and I'll see what I can find.
