thinking about buying

Post by Phoenix100 »

Can anyone help? I'm thinking of buying. I saw a video and noticed there was a selection for 'original' or 'alternate' map on the start screen. I don't like the original map and counters, would prefer something more modern - does the 'alternate' map button deliver this? If so, could anyone post a screenshot of the alternate map and counters in action, please? Many thanks.

Ah. Ok, Zak. Thanks. Are you saying the map in your second example above is now included in the game I buy and I don't have to mod it?

Also, it's a terrific game, IMO at least, and well worth buying.

Thanks. I bought it, but probably wish I had waited until a sale. 27 Eu was steep for this, I think. I have both CotD and PFE and really like CotD, but this one - GoA - is very odd, so far. The map is terrible. It's like fighting world war 1 with a map drawn in the tenth century, full of inaccuracies - or not quite a mercator projection, perhaps. Maybe the game play is good. Haven't got that far yet. It's annoying also that the 1920x1080 option doesn't actually work properly, so there's a lot of screen spare - especially since it's hard to comfortably see everything on my monitor, with my relatively old eyes. But it's only ever going to be 'relatively old' people like me who would consider playing a game like this with such atrocious graphics, I suspect. The modern alternate counters are better, clearer, but the modern alternate hexy map isn't any clearer, I think - perhaps even less clear than the original. I wish there was a chemkid map for this, as there is for CotD.

Stick with it Phoenix.

I did buy it in the sale and have no quibbles although I agree the decision to abstract Canada and the USA and most of GB is somewhat eccentric.

I'm about to post a review so see what yu make of that.
