Unit retains AP after priority transport-WAD or bug/exploit?

Post by EwaldvonKleist »

As the title says, units keep their AP after the priority transport card is played. As it works now, you can have unit with X AP and its HQ with Y AP.
Move the HQ Y AP forward so it is out of range of the unit, then play the priority transport card, the unit will warp drive to the HQ retaining its X AP which then can be spent later. Is this an intended feature or a bug?

Hi Ewald,

It's intended. Priority transport represents pulling out all stops to get that unit from A to B, above and beyond normal movement capabilities.

Thanks for all your quick replies!
My standard tactic at the moment is to leave a motorized div far behind, but still in command range of the HQ (so the unit will have full AP). Next turn I move the HQ forward, using most of its AP->play "out of command range, priority transport" card->enjoy the warp drive and the retained AP.

So under perfect circumstances, I first move the HQ 100AP forward, then warpdrive in my 150AP unit, and then move it another 150AP. So 250 AP in total.

Basically create a breakthrough, move the Panzergruppe HQ to the most advanced point of the breakthrough, then warpdrive the unit in and move even deeper. Usually I could only penetrate 150 AP deep (assuming my untis have 150 AP) but with that trick the depth of the penetration can be increased to 250 AP by adding the 100AP from the HQ. On this way the unit the most behind will be the most forward unit in the end. I am surprised by this because I thought this card is intended to pull low-AP stragglers to the HQ, not to support super deep offensives.

Regards
EvK

Hi EvK,

Mmmm... It wasn't designed to do what you are using it for.

Okay. Simple fix would be to limit the card to being played to units which were out of command range at the beginning of the turn (before Axis unit movements). On this way the unit in question would have low AP and the exploit would be more or less gone. I think I will use this as a self imposed house rule too.
