Kamikazi Air Force

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Kamikazi Air Force

Post by Chisai »

When air units enter the game, they will attack something and get shot down since we usually have not had time to take out the enemy AD units. If you call off an airstrike, AI will assign another strike and repeat.

I now regularly conduct airstrikes on hexes behind my front lines, preferably beyond AD range until the air units can be used without loss.

When AI doesn't find enemy, it will call off the airstrike and my suicidal air units survive for another round.

Greetings Chisai,
It looks like you have 'Allow staff FSCC control' checked in the FS tab.
Untick that box so that you can plot your own offmap Arty and Airstrikes, rather than let the AI do it for you.
Your air support will live longer or at least not die in vain.

Alternately keep changing the air units to resupply mode , that should stop air attacks until you have knocked back enemy air defences. This way you can continue use FSCC functions. If your air units are due to arrive as reinforcements you need ensure that you have your FSCC option set to off at their arrival time, to stop them carrying out an air strike before you can intervene and place them in resupply mode.
I understand that Southern Storm will seperate artilery and air support functions ?

Hi all,

I still think that allowing a player to designate which INDIVIDUAL artillery units and air units are to be kept under his control and which will be under the FSCC would greatly mitigate situations like those described earlier in the thread. Naturally these designations would be player changeable throughout the course of the game.

Something for SS maybe....[&o]
