Any USSR full size Tank Divisions left later in game?

Post by juv95hrn »

I seem to remember that most (if not all?) USSR tank divisions are transformed into tank brigades after turn 10 or so. But does that eventually happen to all of them, or do you get to keep some larger formations. I have a vague memory this is the case, but who knows in the latest update, or if I am wrong?

If you keep some, is it random, or do you know which ones will remain in their larger formation Toe?

Thanks.

My understanding is that they all eventually convert to Brigades in an unpredictable order, though I do have a memory that one tank div comes as a reinforcement quite late; easy enough to check...

Turn 15 = 60th Tank Div
Turn 16 = 58th Tank Div

In my current game with Model1950 they 'upgraded' to over strength brigades 2 turns later and then normal strength brigades thereafter. So not much use. Had I tried to use them Model1950 would have just surrounded them and lots of tanks lost.

They eventually upgrade to Tank Brigades although the TOE upgrades may take some time. Once they turn to brigades you can start building them up into Tank Corps at the start of 1942.

So basically its random if you get to keep your good surviving Tank divisions, or if they get changed early. Why do I have a feeling some where kept permanently? Maybe because some stuck around for a very long time and never got converted into 42.

Yes, it is random and some may take a long time but usually by 1942 they have all converted!

Perhaps you have read David Glantz' August Storm, or at least something with a detailed OOB for the Soviet Army in the Manchurian Operation in 1945?

Two pre-war tank divisions in the far east were never transitioned to the new OOB. Colonel Glantz identifies them as the 61st tank Division, part of 39th Army, and the 111th Tank Division, assigned as a front asset to Marshal Malinovsky's Transbaykal front.

Additionally the 36th and 57th Motorised Rifle divisions, also artifacts of the "stumbling colossus" era TOE, were still in existence in the far East, and were assigned to 6th Guard Tank Army when it transited from Austria to Mongolia in 1945.
