M key, move question

When you change the move type (like from move/defend to move/attack) does it effect all of your units on the map? Can I have just a few units in move/attack and the rest in move defend?

When you change move type, everybody after you change move type will be in that mode.

Yes, just change the movement mode before you select the units.
