Railyard Strafing

Post by eeyore19682001jmn »

Is there any way to make sure that your fighter sweeps don't do this? I'm playing the 1940 campaign, and this is useless. It:

1) Really slows down play as your fighters make multiple passes over railyards;
2) Gets a lot of your fighters shot down by flak;
3) Ensures that when your fighter sweep gets to the intended target, most of the attackers are no longer on the mission. I'm trying to strafe Gravesend airfield, but they are so busy strafing the Ashford and Maidenstone railyards that, no matter how many times I replay the turn, there are never more than 10 of the 60 BF-109s sent on the mission that actually strafe Gravesend;
4) As far as I can tell, they are incapable of doing any game relevant damage.

This feature needs to go. If I want to strafe the railyards, I'll target them.

I feel the same way about fighters I assign to high escort for a bombing mission diving to attack balloons. It's really frustrating to watch messages of your fighters attacking balloons interspersed with messages about Spitfires bouncing the bombers they're supposed to be escorting.

The sweep mission is designed to allow fighters to gain local air superiority but also allow then to attack any targets of opportunity on the inbound and outbound legs and near the patrol area. If you don't want them to hunt for these targets then set waypoints and patrol area clear of rail centers etc.
