110 Update to SM question

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

110 Update to SM question

Post by KenchiSulla »

Hi,

I am really enjoying the new patch. Thank you for your work! One question:

The patch notes state:

Me110 night-fighters will auto upgrade to be fitted with upward firing cannon.

I assumed this meant that we would not be able to manually upgrade the fighters to SM. While playing I noticed it is actually still possible to do this. Was this the intention?

extra cannons is probably the belly gund pack with two guns (listed as installab, see line above FuG 202).
Strange it lacks the defensive armament of a MG81Z twin gun

The extra cannons are the SM installation. It will then be the G4/M1 version. I had pointed out the lack of rear armament on all Me110 NJG but this seems to be unrectifiable due to 'weapon slots'. Simovitch would have the answer, one he gave me but I am not sure the above is correct!

This is a feature to improve the Axis AI. If you play the August 1943 campaign there is no difference. If you play the March 1944 campaign, the AI's Me110's will now benefit from 7 months of "manual" upgrading. Human player can do whatever he pleases.

Like Mark said, The way the upgrade code works I was unable to solve the "swapping" of the rear-firing guns with SM, so you just get SM.

One should consider then getting them a bump in manouverability as they are seriously hampered by the lack of defensive armament vs jumping allied aircraft.

Well, the Me110 dayfighters in 1943 have the rear gun and a higher MV than the nightfighters with the SM and no rear gun.
