Multiplayer question

Post by ncc1701e »

Will you keep the exact same Sequence of Play than in the boardgame for multiplayer mode?

With the opportunity fire and/or defensive fire mechanisms, it seems there will be some exchanges between opponents.

Hi ncc1701e

Good question. At present opportunity fire is controlled by AI. So if you move and the AI thinks it has a good chance to hit then it will fire - normally if you move into the open.

This was a design choice because of the very issue you raise that in PBEM you would have to keep sending games back and forth after every move to a new hex.

With defensive fire phase you will get a chance as the defender to fire as part of a PBEM game.

Or for the opportunity fire, you can perhaps ask some directives from the player to help the AI decide before the actual sequence is played.
For example, if enemy infantry shows up in this hex, we fire. Or, if an armor appears here, we hold fire.

Yes that is something I have considered. I have it as a possible enhancement for the future.

How many people can play at a time in MP? Is it just 1 v 1?

Can a defender auto-opportunity fire multiple times in a turn? Or is it a one-shot deal? I ask because you remember the older games where you could move a crappy unit into heavy cover front of defender to draw the opportunity fire while your other units charge across clear terrain knowing they are safe?

It has been a while, but I know Tiller Gettysburg lets you opportunity fire unlimited times.., not sure if there is a degradation of the quality of the Op fire after the first, but it was important that it fires a lot.

Hi Balto

If a defender opportunity fires and had an MG it will create a firelane. Anyone crossing the firelane will be exposed to a fire attack from the MG.
