Is mechanized/armor etc. too cheap? (production&fuel/ukpeep)

In my current game, I noticed that building things like infantry or artillery is a waste of manpower.

Fuel is infinite, thanks to various assets which can produce it.
Once "demetalization" and industry is set up; I can spam pure tank armies and assist them with airforce.

I think that most units (non-infantry) should cost more and need upkeep (% of production cost) and bigger fuel cost.

I feel like most balance is designed for the early game. But once all the mid-game techs and assets hit the game, economy becomes really inflationary.

Have you been in a situation where you have to defend against an opponent with a much bigger item production than yours ?
And/or with lots of mountains and/or forests ?

This is not a universal truth. Planets varry wildly in fuel availibility.

Planets can be like earth. That means Organic plantlife is abundant, it dies, is burried and then converted to fossil fuels over millions of years.
Even if you got limited existing deposits, it should be cheap to produce food to turn into biofuel.

Other SE planets are moon class, where there has never been a Biosphere.
The only sources of fuel are ruins.
Converting Food into fuel is near impossible, as your production from Dome Farms is extremely limited.

A large factor in the usefullness of both are forrests and mountains:
Forrests slow down the vehicles and apply relevant combat penalties, while not allowing them good entrenchment either.
So ironically alive planets are usually a bad place - because the foliage makes using vehicles a bad idea.
Mountains meanwhile are impassible for vehicles, unless there is a road. "The hardest thing in the game, is a MG unit in mountain."
The advent of airforces actually mitigated both things a bit - while foliage offers some defense boost vs low fliers, it does allow you to "burn fuel" for limitary
While mountains offer no real protection again airforces.

You should try playing multiplayer, then you'll see than making your armies consist of mostly mechanized/armored units its a premium.

I am limited to singleplayer :(

I play versus Ai on the highest difficulty. And once mid-game hits, resources become infinite.

Walkers&Aircraft work in Jungle&Mountains too! No need for infantry.

That's the issue, the only "hard" part of playing singleplayer its the early game, once you have combat armor and a Industry lvl 3 you can easily conquer the rest of the planet, it doesn't matter if you're fighting against a Nemesis in the highest difficulty (as long as you know what you're doing).

Walkers are realy late game and kind of a Counter to Vehicles (massive bonus percentage).
Low flying aircraft are hindered by Jungle. High fliers by their operation height.
