Allied turn of September 15th, 1939
The proud defenders of Poznan and Warsaw surrendered to vastly superior forces. However, against all odds, Krakow’s defenders managed to hold the city albeit with horrendous loses. But it is only a matter of days before the defenses will collapse.
Denmark was overrun in a matter of hours. A German general was heard saying that most peacetime field exercises were more dangerous than this invasion. Berlin guaranteed the Danish government some degree of autonomy for internal affairs during the occupation. The remains of the army and the fleet remained impounded in ports and barracks, still nominally under Danish control.
A French agent passing as a tourist in Rhodes, Miss Toussaint (not her real name), noticed the massive arrival of Italian soldiers on the Island. The Allies are wondering if Italy’s intentions might less peaceful than Rome reassurance about its neutrality would lead to believe?
In other news, two U-boat flotillas have started hunting in the North Atlantic with some moderate success. For now, the situation is under control, but some scenarios analysed in Portsmouth are still worrisome. The Royal Navy is monitoring the situation and analysing future needs to hopefully contains the threat that will only grow bigger.
