Armor Mix

Post by ShadowVillage »

Curious - how do players feel about assault guns and/or tank destroyers being part of armored formations? Do you limit your armored formations to tanks only (via quality settings) or allow a mix? Interesting that there's a separate formation for a tank destroyer brigade but there's no assault gun brigade (and names aside, both types of units can be built as either assault guns/howitzers or tank killers).

Tank destroyers and Assault Guns are cheaper versions of the medium and heavy tank in the game. Nothing more, nothing less.

So you use them, if you can not afford the "full" version.

Cheaper, but with an attack malus because they lack a turret. Better have a different medium tank iteration with a HV gun.

The good thing is, we have all the information in the reports. The bad thing is, we have all the information. Maerchen, 2020

"Tank destroyers and Assault Guns are cheaper versions of the medium and heavy tank in the game. Nothing more, nothing less. "

Not quite as AGs and TDs have a penalty when attacking.

"Better have a different medium tank iteration with a HV gun."

Conversely, tanks had a penalty when defending.

It seems to me a mixed brigade will be weaker on the attack than a pure tank brigade, but the mixed brigade will defend better. Resource costs aside, is the purely offensive tool better? I imagine if you can afford to pair up pure tank brigades with infantry units for defense, then the pure tank unit is better. There are multiple ways to go with this (as with so many things in the game).

For the record, I like to go all-tank, but I'm wondering whether that's a universal preference (cost factors set aside).
