A Pre-Purchase Question About WitP:AE?

Post by Oubaas »

Does this run well on Windows 10 Home 64-bit? I'm about to make the purchase, but thought I'd ask first.

I bought, "Gary Grigsby's War in the West" complete bundle last night, and that runs great on my machine, which I run at 2560 x 1440. I run the game in Full Screen with High settings, no issues.

Is this more or less the same game engine?

Thanks!

The game engine dates back to Uncommon Valor so it is quite dated, but still a powerful engine. It will run on Win 10 and reportedly Win 11, but to make the old engine talk to the newer hardware and operating system you have to configure some text "switches" in the game shortcut.
The precise switches required vary with the hardware and OS the player is using, so a little experimentation is required - usually only an hour or so of this. There is an entire thread about the switches and there is a utility called SeaBee that will configure the switches for you - you just have to pick the ones you want to try.
So the answer is - it isn't all that hard to get it running on Win 10.

Excellent! I'm used to that sort of tinkering and tweaking, so that's not a problem. Thank you very much for your helpful reply, BBfanboy.
