Please allow us to dissolve Forts

Sorry I have to bring this topic up again, but the changes in the last patch to fix the blockade problem make no sense.

This is a totally legitimate defense encouraged by the game by now having field fortifications everywhere along costal cities:

What sense does that make? :shock:
Please, just let me place units inside the city I want to defend. Not around it by patching in field fortifications everywhere.
Just allow us to dissolve Forts (returning 0 MPP).
It's also totally inconsistent. Why can I place units in Richmond but not in New Orleans? :shock:

I love the game, don't get me wrong and I want the game to be the best it can be, but this new change is utter nonsense.

All other considerations aside, I love that the Confederate trooper in that picture is wearing a Pickelhaube helmet. :mrgreen:

Yes Forts are actually annoying. There aren't enough units in game to utilize them, they need to be placed outside of the city not on it and or allow units to station on them. You can destroy a fort and take it by sea without really fighting. (they should always be adjacent to the City not on it if you want them at all.

I think those are the Italian units. Not sure it's a Pickelhaube. I'm using the French Tier 1 troops for the Union and they actually look pretty good, but grey Pickelhaube Germans are a terrible idea for the CSA :lol:
So I used the Italians here. 8-)

In previous SC titles, forts are usually represented by a "Fortified Town" type terrain hex instead of independent Fort units, even though this type of unit already existed in the engine.

I understand that "Fortified Town" with units inside it would be near impossible to take unless throwing in regular armies with HQ support. While on the other hand, Fort units are the opposite, too easy to be defeated.

I feel like a compromise would be having the Fort units next to the City hexes instead of inside the City hexes. Players can still put regular units inside the city; and historically speaking, those Second System and Third System coastal forts were not in the city centers anyway.

They appear to be units transferred from the Blue Max art mod for Strategic Command: World War I. So, basically with this art you'll get to fight the ACW with uniforms from fifty years in the future. Too bad you can't have the airships, planes and tanks. :mrgreen:
