Getting the game menu program to STFU

These inevitably make a noise when you mouse over one of the buttons. Ones that make a 'radio squawk' noise (some SSG games in particular do this) are especially annoying.

Apart from just ignoring them and having shortcuts to the programs themselves - or muting the whole PC's sound - is there any way to silence them?
