Install Vichy Game Crashing/Stopping Bug -- All Versions

Post by rkr1958 »

I can't advance after installing Vichy and going through to returning French ships at sea to base. When I click on the end phase button the game hangs. This happens with 5.0.0.10 (debug), 4.4.1.0 (debug) & 3.2.0 (debug).

Appreciate any help/suggestions on how I might get around this game stopper until/if fix issued.

Bug confirmed.

This is a strange one, because the computer is still processing things, but the game itself isn't moving at all. And no Mad Except happens too.

Thanks for confirming! Definitely not a regression bug since 3.2.0 at least since it's in that version too. Do you, or anyone else, have any guess as to what the culprit might be?

For example, MOR Terr in Maginot line hex, French partisan next to Lyons, 2 Italian partisans in FIC which went Vichy? I've tried "samples" with each of those edited out but to no avail. It's got to be something unusual that hasn't been caught before but for the life of me I don't see it!

Ok this bug was a bear to "workaround" but I finally managed. Here's what I did,

I made a copy of my game file and named itTest_Fix.GAM. Just as the name suggests I made a series of edits to see if I could get around this fatal bug. The following edits were made in order and were cumulative. That is, even if they didn't work I kept them. Also, I went through the EXACT roll sequence (i.e., Vichy/Free French determination, USE entry) every time! I've probably gone through the Vichy installation sequence 20 times until I FINALLY got MWIF to proceed. I wasn't sure I was going to make it but I did!

(1) Moved MOR Terr from metro France back to Morocco. Moved Dakar MIL from metro France back to Dakar. Move French partisan from soon to be Vichy France to occupied France. MWIF still hung after moving French naval and air units at sea back to port.
(2) Moved French Partisan in Metro-France and Italian Partisans in FIC (which goes Vichy) to the destroyed pool. No joy, MIWF still hung after moving French naval and air units at sea back to port.
(3) Finally, I moved the13 French naval and air units remaining at sea back to port and flipped them. I moved them to the Vichy & Free French ports that they were to eventually move to after Vichy declaration. Walla ... I got through Vichy installation to the factory destruction phase! Whatever was causing MWIF to hang at the end of moving French naval and air units at sea back to base I was able to get around by not having to execute that phase.

While one may infer from the above that I only went through the Vichy installation 3 or 4 times I actually went through it over 20 times trying different things and different versions! I was about ready to give up but I'm glad I didn't.

Thanks! I've invested a little over a month in my current project and I would have to lose it.
