upgrading Europe Aflame to TOAW IV v1.3.1 Question

Post by scout1 »

this is the first scenario upgrade I've done with this game and ran into something I didn't expect ....

downloaded the zip file for v1.3.1 which contains a pdf, a bmp and a sce file

so now the question qas where to move the sce file ...., well the subfolder under scenarios was my obvious choice ...

to my surprise ALL the subfolders were completely empty .... this surprises me .... should it ?

which leads me to my next question, where do I copy the upgrade v1.3.1 sce file too ? Should be obvious, but no longer sure

please help

Suggest that you do the following:

1. In your TOAW scenario directory create a new folder named Europe Aflame XXX. The XXX is a version number of your choice which distinguishes your version from all other versions.
2. Place the pdf, bmp and sce files in the new Europe Aflame XXX folder.
3. Rename the pdf and bmp files to Europe Aflame XXX.bmp and .pdf.
4. Load the TOAW III scenario file in the TOAW IV editor and immediately save it in your new folder as Europe Aflame XXX. This is a critical step as it imprints your scenario name on the TOAW IV sce.
5. Open the scenario briefing and copy the text into a text file. You will use this file to record all changes that you make before pasting it back into the updated scenario.
6. If you have any intention of modifying graphics, create a new Europe Aflame XXX folder in the Graphics Override directory.
7. If you have any intention of making your updated scenario public, as a courtesy try to contact the original author(s) and get their blessing.

This is a scenario mod created by someone else which I want to incorporate/play ...

Not sure if it makes any difference to the above steps .... ?

Also am not clear where this folder goes ... current structure under 'Documents' has all scenario subfolders completely empty ....

Confused

Please note that Europe Aflame to TOAW IV v.1.3.1 isn't a mod. It's the "official" adaptation of this scenario to TOAW IV.

As to your doubts:
1) The structure under 'Documents' has all scenario subfolders completely empty. That's a known fact.
Use instead the path C: programes / Matrix Games / The Operational Art of War IV /Scenarios
2) All files (pdf, a bmp and sce file) should be moved to this C: programes / Matrix Games / The Operational Art of War IV /Scenarios folder. But you can move them to C: Documents / My Games / The Operational Art of War IV /Scenarios folder with the same effect.
Then open TOAW, on new game option be sure to choose the right folder (the left lower button)

Hope it helps...
