Monty's Front Desert War Upgrade

Post by bcgames »

Started work on upgrading WEGOWW2: Desert War 1940-42 to the Monty's Front engine. It all starts with re-tiling the map...

I'm looking forward to getting back to--The Desert.

Does this mean I'll have to buy another game of DW?

Or will this update be a patch to my existing DW?

I a not too keen on the former.

Nope. It's a patch.

There have been a ton of changes/additions/deletions to the WEGO game engine since Desert War came out. We don't want to have multiple versions to maintain going forward. Sooooo....Desert War and Stalingrad will be patched up to Monty's Front standards. Gratis.

Upgrades...

Since Desert War was published five+ years ago, these are the improvements to the WEGO game engine up through Monty's Front:

* Weather Engine
* Attach/Detach Divisions
* Build-up/Break-down battalions and brigades
* Bombardment
* Logistics Assets
* Special Events Assets
* Asset Restriction Options
* Day/Night Operations
* Improved AI
* Linked-scenario Campaign Games
* Airborne Operations
* Amphibious Operations
* Riverine Operations
* Supply Depots
* Expanded set of terrain types and effects (airfields, drop zones, major rivers, villages, beach, flooded, hedgerow, polder, etc., etc.)
* Adjustable scenario start times
* Adjustable era/years
* Conditional Reinforcements
* GUI Improvements/Expansions
* System simplification/elegance

Other than these additions, Desert War is exactly the same as it ever was...

That's great news!

I'm looking forward to have the same features in Desert War as in Stalingrad.
Albert Einstein is often quoted as having said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones".

Look forward to it. Just stared revisiting DW41 after reading more about Tobruk seige. Be good to add greater map detail and scale so a Tobruk/El Duda breakout can be covered in much greater detail - as it deserves.

Hope springs eternal. I would like to re-do Desert War at 2500m per hex vs the current 3200m...but I also want to do many more other topics before I go back to the desert.

Thanks for the question. We have no plans for a Desert War "patch". We do have plans to upgrade Desert War to the Monty's Front game engine standard. The first WEGO Monty's Front game--OVERLORD--is currently undergoing ALPHA testing. MARKET-GARDEN will follow close behind OVERLORD's publication. After that Desert War and Stalingrad will get their upgrades.
