This idea has been around around and looks like it might move forward.

Sort of makes sense to try it out up in a remote area.

"On August 31, the Air Force announced that a California company called Oklo would design, construct, own, and operate a micro nuclear reactor at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. The contract will potentially run for 30 years, with the reactor intended to go online in 2027 and produce energy through the duration of the contract. Should the reactor prove successful, the hope is that it will allow other Air Force bases to rely on modular miniature reactors to augment their existing power supply, lessening reliance on civilian energy grids and increasing the resiliency of air bases."

An SMR still requires a lot of space and land. Not nearly as much as a full-scale grid-level reactor, but still on the order of tens of thousands of sq m. But the modular design might break the strangle-hold the big EPC companies have over the industry.

Yeah. There's a bunch of companies working on micro-reactors of several types. Some of which do indeed fit on a flatbed truck and are transportable.

Some excellent research is also going on with molten salt and liquid-metal-cooled reactors, which are super safe (literally can NOT melt down or go supercritical) and, again, can be made truck-portable.

This here is about 80+ SMR designs around the world. Over 400 pages. Sounds kinda interesting (I only just found it myself)
