How to increase success chances with meritocracy choices for zone events?

Post by Burnrate »

I'm trying to go meritocracy but every event that happens that could cause unrest and has such high difficulty. Like a 50 + 2d100 vs a skill check of 1d100+27 (that is actually a relatively easy example, they are usually impossible).

I have tried giving my governors charisma artifacts and all sorts of other strats but it barely seems to help. If I choose these events they always end in catastrophic failure with massive unrest that cripples the town for many turns.

How do I even begin to approach these events?

The difficulty for the check in protests, the most common unrest event, is based on the zone's loyalty + average happiness. The higher they are, the easier the check. That means Meritocracy wants to proactively manage the happiness of zones so the difficulty of the checks becomes manageable.

You can also make a leader good with the relevant skills (most importantly Oratory and Investigation) an advisor and attach them to a zone governor whenever an event requires a check. Note that in the latest open betas, you can't attach or detach the same advisor more than once per turn, so you have to remember to detach them afterwards if there are multiple potentially troublesome zones.

Ahh I didn't even think of attaching advisor to the governor, such a good idea, I'm so silly. I didn't think investigation would be important for those but that makes sense. Is there anyway to see exactly what influences a check?

The option in the decision says which skill will be used. Oratory is used to calm down protesters, and Investigation can be used to resolve a lot of other unrest decisions where somebody is causing trouble.

Get an advisor (or two now) for it and attach roll detach next turn now that we can't do it multiple time each turn in the beta. Before one advisor could do all the rolls in one turn. Recruit senior/talent usually gives leader with high investigation/ charisma. You can also train one as governor in a new conquered zone where the unrest gives a lot of those event.
