Anyone here play solitaire (both sides Human-controlled)?
I've been playing both sides of the grand campaign (solitaire style) quite a bit lately and am finding it a lot of fun. Needless to say, I can't deceive the other side as to what they plan to do but it's been very diverting and instructive to see exactly what issues the other side labors under, figure out how they order the OOB, and see what I can defend against or attack adequately against from either side.
Just curious if anyone else has played a few games this way.

I've played scenarios solitaire but not the campaign - it just takes too long. I've been playing board wargame solo for years, I have a knack of switching by brain when I switch sides - can't spring surprises but it helps to role-play each commander.

I am, as a way to learn the game. In my campaign game it's August 1943 and the Germans are hanging on from Leningrad to Rostov, their '42 campaign pretty much the same as historical.

I've tried it but I kept on cheating

I read this as a joke - i.e. refusing to play with X because X is a cheater is funny where X = myself. It is slightly less funny expressed algebraically, I grant.

Yes, many of my comments are light hearted.
When playing solitaire you know exactly what your opponents strategy is which I find hard not to use. The only way I could do it is to wait a couple of days between each turn so I will have hopefully forgotten the finer details.

Just use a die to decide the greater OKH/STAVKA moves/strategies.

Re: Anyone here play solitaire (both sides Human-controlled)?
I play both sides. AI begins to be very predictable after couple of runs and finding time to play with someone is too hard for me. I find lots of fun in playing both sides by using house rules and randomness. I decide before the campaign what random goals each side has (OKH/Stavka level). Then each AG/Front might or might not have their own targets derived from OKH/Stavka goals. Anyway, they have their targets. Each AG/Front receive resources from OKH/Stavka. Some get plenty, some get hardly any. So OKH/Stavka gives resources based on their priorities/targets and resource allocation is the only way they can influence the war. Then each AG/Front play their own minigame with the resources they are given trying to achieve those goals and stick to those no matter what happens around them. There are checkpoints where these targets and resource allocations are changed. It does not matter too much that I know what the other side is doing, as each AG/Front have their own constraints. I don’t do micromanagement (to exploit the weaknesses I know enemy has) and I have a strict logic at the decision making (for instance, where to move, when to attack and when to do recon flights etc). I can't cheat too much as the most important decisions are random and given to me and the rest is logic. I can only decide how to use the resources I am given efficiently and how to achieve my AG goals. It is fairly complicated system which aims to limit my cheating as I happen to know the other side's situation very well.
It is a good way to learn the game and exactly as you said, you learn what problems the other side is facing.

I usually play one side until I get to a point where I am ahead, and then switch sides.

I just loaded up a turn. The game seems to consume a staggering 100Mb of VRAM.
Considering I have a 4090, I suppose I could ask my new best friend, Microsoft Copilot, to hot seat with me.
But then, I was naughty ... when upgrading to WIN10 22H2, I murdered Copilot (as I prepared our systems to stay on WIN10 for the next 5 years).
Please don't think I am racist. I do have AI friends, but none which run in the cloud or report to the mothership. As for the game AI, it may not be as smart, but it still gives my wetware a run for the money.

Speaking of AI. NVidia is offering their new G-Assist tool which can help the computer illiterate set up their video card in games.
I was watching someone demo this fantastic tech on YouTube. It was very educational. I learned do NOT attempt to run AI models while playing video games if you want a good FPS.
It will be interesting to see what happens to games like InZoi which has a SmartZoi mode which uses generative AI for guiding NPCs. So, often we play games where the personalities are just parametric templates for conditional program code and becomes tedious and repetitive. The chance to see real emotional/goal oriented AI in games should be quite a thing ... that's if Unreal 5 leaves any performance available to run AI models in the background.
