The requirements for this game do not list a DVD player. But it looks like all versions of this game come with a DVD. So do I need a DVD player for this game to work?

In the requirements it mentioned possible problems with sound cards, then suggested trying the demo first. Is there a demo?

Is this the "base" game I need to start with? I'm new to this game.

A DVD drive isn't required to play Final Blitzkrieg(FB).
FB is a base game, there is a DLC available called Downfall and that requires FB.
