What is the ideal height to drop supplies from transport aircraft?

High enough for the parachutes to open if they are used.

An Indian Sergeant was killed when a half full bag of rice was dropped on him. The bags were only half filled so they would not burst open when the hit the ground.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I normally just accept the default 5K? But like any mission, local AA can affect success as can CAP. If it's you own base/unit then it matters not.

Somehow I like to use 11k.

No real reason why, except that pilots/crew flying under 13k don't need oxygen masks.

I am using 16K for those squadrons flying the hump and 11K for those flying over the Owens-Stanley range.

Never thought of that, being a flat map terrain height is irrelevant but I suppose it adds to the realism. I do adjust the height depending upon what's in the target hex.

Real WWII combat static line jumps, including airborne supply drops, are usually conducted at 1000-2000 feet and could go as low as 500 feet. This was to stop dispersal and minimal exposure to enemy ground fire. 500 foot drops were just enough height for a chute to deploy and slow the decent. 500 foot drops were only conducted in special circumstances like the German drops on the forts in Belgium since there were too many injuries. 500 foot drops for supplies wasn't uncommon since there weren't any troop injuries to worry about. I don't know how the game parameters are so I do my drops 4000-5000 feet.

Never knew the exact height but knew in was not very high. Anybody know if the game models this aka like torpedo bombing, probably not.
