"Special weapons" for fixed-wing CAS

Post by Zumwalt_446 »

Can we expect to have "special weapons" (nuclear/chemical) introduced as payloads for fixed-wing aircraft as well as the current inclusion for tube/rocket artillery? Not sure if this is already implemented in the game as I haven't seen anything referencing it in the documentation.

I'm not sure that works for aircraft at the moment. I'll test things out this weekend and get back to you.

This would probably require adding additional AGMs under the "Systems" sheet of the relevant database and assigning them a NPCHEM, PCHEM, or NUKE type. I assume this would result in the corresponding effect being applied based on the targeted hex and the effect radius of the munition.

Will test this out tomorrow and report back.

I tested it last night, and it does not work. We need to change the code to address cases where NBC/Special weapons will work in non-artillery/strike situations.

Another aspect of this is the delivery method (toss bombing, level bombing, etc.) as I doubt aircraft would drop even a low-yield weapon from within the same hex. Ultimately this may be more of a cosmetic addition than anything else, but it would be nice to be able to utilize air-delivered tactical weapons (primarily B-61 for NATO and a wider variety for WP) and whatever chemical munitions existed (from my readings, these would be largely but not exclusively on the WP side as NATO prioritized artillery delivery for chemical weapons over air-delivered ones).

Another capability that I have been thinking of in this context would be the SADM (Special Atomic Demolition Munition) and similar systems; they were intended to be used in various tactical contexts including flank/rear security, demolitions (hence the name), and others. Given the context of FCSS (a WP advance into Germany) corresponding WP "backpack nukes" would likely not see much use due to their primarily defensive role.
