Hearts of Iron 2

Post by ncc1701e »

If I had to choose between Darkest Hour and Arsenal of Democracy.

Which one to buy? And why?

Almost the same.

I play Darkest Hour - but only the scenarios.

They cost nothing, or virtually nothing so try them.

As an aside, I've never really got how to play Paradox continuous time games. A click fest; or stop every day, week, month, year and re-start. What do you do?

I play at the slowest speed and pause when necessary.

Thanks, it is true that both are unexpensive now. ;)

I set a lot of actions to "stop and notify" or whatever the terminology is. I get a new tech, play stops. I get attacked somewhere, play stops. I lose a leader, play stops. A new ship gets built, play stops. You get the idea. Then I just run the game as fast as possible.

To the original question, the two variant games are something like $2 each [EDIT: On sale, at least]. I'd buy both. It's been awhile, but looking at my Steam statistics, I've played AOD more than DH.

I have tried them both, i didnt like how AoD is setup and still some issues with it. Darkest Hour would be your best bet, cause of realism and details of the game.

I did some sprites for IJN for AoD, but i have abort the projects due to issues with the game...

Also the team working or improving AoD doesnt seem friendly, when i try offer my help to fix it or least explaining the details. Guess some teams rather be left alone, doing their own things like PDX does.

Well funny, Darkest Hour is 80% off on Steam until May 15th. 8-)

Still a good game for the price, plus you could find mods that suit you from PDX forum.

So happy to rediscover HOI2 with Darkest Hour. Still remembering the musics.

After the disappointment of HOI3, I did read some feedback on HOI4 but it seems I won't like it.
Playing Darkest Hour all the afternoon, no crash. Miracle.

HoI3 does have issues, idk what it is. Alot of players doesnt like HoI4 cause lack of realism and feel wonky.

Glad you like Darkest Hours, its my favorite too.

I think realism is very subjective, it is about player interest most.. I enjoy Iraq and Afghan focus trees in HOI'4 than a simple boardgame design. But if I'm more interested in WW'2 I would play Matrix games instead.

I used to play HOI2 over a decade ago. I see where Steam has the game with the two expansions on sale. Quite cheap . . .
