Look for newest Saving Private Ryan scenario on the landings at Dog Green Sector, Omaha Beach. It should be posted soon as Wargamer Depot and at SPWAW Depot.

More details can be found there. Suffice to say, it is quite different from most scenarios you have played. It can really grab you in the gut!

Mates, it worth every second of play!

It's really a hearbreaking experience to open those Barges' ramps and.., or to see your single man units named after the "old guard" of the MCSE Team being killed one after the other in their desperate attempt to move out of that deadly shore.

Darn, they caught Sgt.Housley!
No, also Capt.Stalker has gone..
Argh, Private Di Nicola has been ripped apart by a MG burst.
Oh my god, that mortar shell dropped just in Lt.Melvin's hole!

It is brutally representative of Bloody Omaha. It took me three tries to win it...and I designed it!

My apologies to Steeler (Rory Gallagher). He was also a tester on the team but I left out his name on the list. Forgive me, Steeler! You did a great job!

Holy Crap!!

Man WB, that one was brutal! I lost so many good men! I managed a marginal victory but the cost was very high!

I Knew my guys would be sitting ducks on the shore so I split 'em up and high tailed it for the walls.

One key was because this scenario is so different because of the men mostly being in single units, you had to, unfortunately use some men as "magnets", to draw the fire on themselves, thus allowing there buddies a better chance to scatter and make it up to better fire and cover positions so as to allow even more of the force to make it off the beach.

This scenario really gives you a kick in the gut, as you see how some men are sacrificed for the betterment of the whole, by drawing the fire of the enemy.

Bill, as usual, an outstanding tour de force from the Master!
You always leave me thinking and your historical notes before the scenario make me go and learn more about these battles either by getting a book on it and or researching the internet for more info.[&o]

Like a fine wine, Bill just gets better and better! His scenario "A Steel Showdown" that was released in December 2003 was another scenario that has cracked my all time top 10.

We are all very fortunate to have his talent and dedication invested in SPWAW, and all you guys who got a chance to work with him in MCSE are very lucky. I really envy you for having that opportunity.

I'm just proud and honored that I have corresponded with him via the boards and email.

Something about this one moves me in a different way. Like you, I feel the losses. It brings home the battle. John, you are absolutely right. Men did draw fire and died so that others could live. That has happened often on the battlefield. Men have stood and become targets to allow others to advance or retreat. Men have hurled their bodies on grenades to protect others, or placed themselves over a wounded comrade and taken bullets meant for him.

I've said it before...allow me to say it again. War, in all its horror, brings out both the worst and thank God, the best in man. That is perhaps one of wargaming's greatest contribution...a new appreciation of what real heroes are about.

Yes Bill, that is what I get out of wargaming too! Yes it's fun and we all enjoy that, but for all of us I'm sure, we get at least a smidgen of a taste of what it must have been like. Add this to scenarios like this one, when you attach names of people that we are familliar with, and it drives the point home even more!
