Squad Reassignment: With Bedlam about to arrive to relieve Anarchy in the “Rebel Hunter” Campaign (refer other thread), Anarchy had to leave early to provide some much needed relief on a different front. Consequently, Bedlam will be providing the next “Rebel Hunter” reports, while Anarchy has moved to this thread. Sorry for the delay, but I needed to get Bedlam to green before I could do the “switch”


TRANSMISSION BEGINS


Hold Out: Mission One

Synopsis: I don’t want to spoil the whole plot line, so I’ll be a bit scant on the details. To summarise, Panther Group is badly hurting and being pursued by the enemy. We need to ensure the survival of the Panther Group Leader (Panther Ldr) and have run out to intercept their pursuers. Exit point for Panther is in the Southwest. Recommended tonnage was tight at 300-320, therefore we weighed in at 310tons (Johnnie stayed behind to help cover the base if required).

Squad:
McManlo: Sickle (100t)
Sarge: Imp (70t)
Marshall: Inferno (70t)
Billy: Berserker (70t)

The Battle:

As we entered the battle area we began running northeast (the direction of Panther group and their pursuers). A large hill (with a radar station on top) blocked our view. The first enemies to be seen were a lone Locust (40ton) to the Southeast which was running across a plain toward us and a Stingray (40ton) directly north of us behind obscured by some trees.

We sent Sarge east to deal with the Locust, ignoring the Stingray (for now) as it disappeared behind cover. We expected to see it as we neared the hill.

The Locust – The first few Tesla strikes missed. When finally a tesla strike almost ripped its Right Arm off, McManlo provided one shot with his BRGs from short range (as he ran northeast) which took the Locust in the Left Torso, caused an ammo explosion which blew up the left torso and did 20 points of damage to the centre torso. Lucky Strike! As Sarge was lining up the death blow, the pilot ejected. One Down.

The Stingray came back into view, as well as the remains of the Panther squad (Panther Ldr and Panther2) pursued by a Slugger and Icelord. Billy jumped at the Stingray as McManlo and Marshall continued to run northeast to engage the pursuers. (Sarge was a couple kms behind). It was at this time that an enemy Inferno arrived at the battle from the East (charging toward us as well!)

Billy vs. the Stingray – Billy missed his Death From Above attempt (but landed squarely) and planted two Chainsaws into the Centre Torso and Right Arm. His next two Chainsaws hit the Lower Torso and Centre Torso (again). The Stingray Jock was terrified and quickly ejected after Billy’s Laser ripped the remains of his Right Arm off. Two Down.

We then got a report of another enemy appearing from the South. At this point, Panther Ldr and Panther2 just passed us, on their way to the rendezvous point in the southeast. Sarge, who was trailing, went south to investigate the new threat, as the Icelord, Slugger, Inferno and us converged at the central hill.

The Icelord - 70tons - The first enemy to get within range was the Icelord. Marshall charged to very short range, heating him up with NMs and FTs (meanwhile, the enemy Inferno was harassing Marshall and the Slugger was hidden from view behind the hill). Billy charged the Icelord and disabled it’s Lower Torso. Three Down.

The Inferno - 70tons - Marshall, Billy and McManlo then all targeted the Inferno. But Billy, just seconds after ‘effectively’ disabling the Icelord was the recipient of a Death-from-Above (DFA) from the Inferno! The charge destroyed Billy’s DCS, but also destroyed the Inferno’s own Left Torso (it took a few previous strikes from McManlo). Billy started inflicting serious damage with his Chainsaws and the pilot ejected! Four Down.

The Slugger- 70 tons – At this point the Slugger appeared over the hill, McManlo made it stumble with a BRG strike and Billy charged it, inserting his two Chainsaws. One strike hit the Right Leg, and a BRG strike ripped the remains of the leg clear off. Five Down!

We then left these enemies to run south to aid Sarge… you may be asking yourself “Yes! What about Sarge?!” Sarge witnessed some AC4 fire coming from some trees to the south (on a small hill). As he ran towards it, clearing some cover he noticed…

…The Revolver (70tons) – The Revolver, upon seeing Sarge changed targets and started blasting away at him. Sarge took quite a bit of damage as he approached the hill, and was unsuccessful at either hitting him (Revolver had shields up) or starting a fire. Sarge ran to the Revolver's west , out of view by some trees on the hill, and advanced from the west – this gave Sarge some time to cool down as those Teslas build a lot of heat. Upon advancing, Sarge appeared directly beside the Revolver and both shot him with a tesla and managed to set the trees the Revolver was in afire. The Revolver had an ammo explosion and Sarge retreated back down behind the hill once more. The Revolver survived the forest fire and emerged to Sarge’s northeast when Sarge immediately blasted the Revolver in the RT with a Tesla, destroying it. The Revolver, undaunted, charged Sarge with a DFA and both titans went down. Sarge stood up and took the Revolver in the Centre Torso with a Tesla Bolt. ENGINE EXPLODES! Six Down!

Sarge took 52 points of damage in the titan explosion and shut down due to heat. The rest of the team, witnessed the mushroom cloud from afar, turned around and performed “mop-up” until the Icelord and Slugger ejected.

Aftermath: Both the Panther Leader and Panther2 escaped. We earned 90k in the battle, but, primarily due to the Sarge’s damaged Imp had repairs of 87k. Now we’ve caught news of a possible counter-attack, so we’re quickly repairing and may need to “dig-in”. We’re not sure what this campaign has in store, but we think we may need all of our resources and brawn to manage just to “Hold Out”!

Hold Out - Mission Two

Mission Objectives – Reach target mountain ridge to the southeast to obtain co-ordinates of enemy encampment. Then retreat to the northern exit point.

The Squad: Anarchy (as above)

The Setting: Hilly terrain with sparse woods. Enemy encampment is in a valley in the southeast, surrounded by a large mountainous ridge with a single entry point (where the ridge is not quite as high).

We entered the sector from the west and began moving eastwards. Soon we spotted 4 enemy titans…

…To the northeast (between us and the northern exit area): Fireball (40t) and Exhuminator (70t).

…to the south (coming at us at top speed): Axeman (70t) and Revolver (70t).

And with these arrivals, and unknowing how many more titans would turn up, I felt the greatest of emotions: Fear!

The Battle:

Billy and Sarge were furthest north, so we sent them ahead to take care of the Fireball and Exhuminator and to secure the exit point.

Marshall was sent due east, towards the objective.

McManlo and Johnnie were to ensure that Marshall wasn’t cut off from the exit point and to secure the rear. They kept running northeast, although they would turn around to take the occasional pot-shot at the Axeman/Revolver, but they were instructed not to engage the enemy unless it seemed that Marshall wouldn’t have time to complete the mission objective and be cut-off.

Billy and Sarge clashed with the Fireball first. The Fireball and Sarge charged each other and both went down. Sarge took the full brunt of the charge on his Centre Torso. Billy swung two chainsaws and ripped the Fireball’s Right Arm off. Billy then inserted a chainsaw into the Fireball’s Right Torso destroying its engine.

By this point in time, Marshall had almost reached the objective (spotted a Penetrator beyond the ridge guarding the enemy base).

As Billy and Sarge turned their sights on (and charged) the Exhuminator, they also spotted a Bloodhound guarding the exit. McManlo supplied a bit of support fire, and tripped the Exhuminator with a BRG to the leg. Sarge jumped on top of it and first planted a Tesla Bolt to the head! He followed this up with a punch to the head, ripping it off. What an Excellent Quick Kill!!!

Billy then led Sarge (who was hurting in the Centre Torso) toward the Bloodhound to clear the exit area. It did not appear that Marshall would be back in time and would be cut-off by the Axeman and Revolver, so McManlo and Johnnie turned around to face the rampaging enemy titans. This was about the same time that Marshall reached the objective, transmitted the co-ordinates and turned to come back northwest. This was also the time that another enemy titan (Whip) appeared to the south. Now as Billy and Sarge made their way to the Bloodhound, Sarge took an unfortunate AC12 to the chest which destroyed his engine! Sarge was down!

Consequently, three separate duals took place:
Billy vs the Bloodhound
McManlo and Johnnie vs the Axeman and Revolver
Marshall vs the Whip

Billy was the first to dispatch his opponent. Using some hills for cover, he was able to charge into the Bloodhound giving little warning. The Bloodhound was knocked off its feet from the charge and Billy went wild with his two Chainsaws. In the midst of his Berserk he destroyed the Bloodhound’s centre torso and caused an engine explosion! Billy was blown off his feet and took light gyro damage. He picked himself off the ground and hobbled to the exit, securing it for a safe retreat.

Meanwhile…McManlo was able to trip up the Axeman and keep him grounded with BRGs 1km away while Johnnie focused on the Revolver. When the Revolver finally reached us, McManlo switched targets to the Revolver which allowed the Axeman finally to stand up. The Revolver then took all manner of punishment from Vibra Claws, Chainsaw, LRMs and BRGs until the Axeman leapt into the air to perform a Death-from-Above (DfA) against us.

Not a smart move on the Axeman’s part.

Seeing the DfA coming, McManlo switched targets back to the Axeman, and when it was directly above us, fired his BRGs! The Axeman was thrown for a loop and fell crashing to the ground, destroying its Left Torso in the fall. A quick Chainsaw and kick, both to the Left Leg, ripped it off. While these shenanigans were going on, A Vibra Claw to the Revolver’s Left Leg ripped it off. McManlo and Johnnie backed up to finish the titan’s off.

Meanwhile… The Whip kept firing long-range GMHs at Marshall. Not wanting to take too many in the back while retreating, Marshall charged the Whip instead! Napalm Missiles heated the enemy up, and when Marshall got to close range began using his flamethrowers. Marshall stayed, heating the Whip up, for at least 5 reloads, then finally retreated (he didn’t want to be caught in a titan explosion and was showing red heat from repeated use of weapons himself). As both he and the Whip cooled down, the Whip finally started moving again to follow Marshall. Scan complete – the Whip was still at yellow-heat with major damage. Marshall then spun around and unloaded another volley of NMs which destroyed both the Right Torso and Lower Torso of the Whip.

With no enemy titans in sight (although there was still at least one in the enemy base) we proceeded to the exit point. Victory, sweet Victory!

133k Salvage

107k Income/Pay
130k Upkeep
157k Profit

The Imp, not making it out of the last two missions was finally abandoned and sold instead of being repaired. Consequently our repair bill, which was going to be 156k (equal to our profit) was under 100k as we didn’t need to replace the Imp’s Centre Torso and Engine.

Sarge loves his Tesla Bolts – but the armour on the Imp is quite thin, consequently we designed a Minotaur (100ton) which has similar weaponry to the Imp, but is a lot sturdier. The design will be available in the other forum (I’ll upload it shortly!).

One last note, our industrious leader, Hamish McManlo, has been awarded the rank of Veteran for his unwavering Bravery and Leadership in the line of Duty.

*** SPOILERS ***

Confession: The below battle report is actually the *second* time I played the mission. The first time I split my squad into groups of two and three and the “two” got surrounded by 5 enemies and shredded (Sarge ejected with a heavily damaged engine and McManlo got his leg blown off), I kept fighting though (3 vs. 5) but lost. So after this failed “simulation” we knew that we’d have to keep our forces together and make the terrain work for us, so we were then off for the “live” run….

Hold Out – Mission 3

Mission: To quickly sweep the area and remove all enemy forces. You have 15 minutes. Begin. Recommended 380-420tons

The Squad:
McManlo (Sickle)
Sarge (Minotaur)
Marshall (Inferno)
Billy (Berserker)
Johnnie (Bloodhound) (I got tired of the Wolverine)
410 tons

The Setting:
We began at the south end of a valley. Various hills lined the ‘valley’ to the east and west. We first spotted some long range titans to the far north (up the valley), and when Billy jumped up to get a view spotted groups to the West (in a ‘basin’) and East coming through the hills.

The Enemy: 490tons
Northern Group:
Exhuminator
Poltergeist1

Western Group:
Penetrator1
Spider

Eastern Group:
Penetrator2
Poltergeist2
Revolver

The Battle Plan:
The plan was to keep our forces relatively together. Deal with the two titans from the west quickly, then go head to head with the remaining five, which would probably be grouped together by then. If we could disable the western group fast enough, then perhaps we could take out the northern two before the eastern reinforcements arrive. Due to the long range nature of the enemy titans, we would have to attempt to keep to cover.

The Actual Battle:
We began heading northwest to take cover from the northern group behind hills/trees, making towards the hills which surrounded the basin that the western group was in. Needless to say, that whenever we didn’t make ourselves ‘scarce’ enough, we were pelted by GMHs LRMs and AC4s etc….

Johnnie was the first into the Basin due to his western starting position (McManlo and Sarge were furthest east). Johnnie targeted the Penetrator1 and crouched down while Marshall charged it. Billy was the third man in and targeted the Spider.

Johnnie managed to trip up the Penetrator at a distance of 1km with his AC12. Marshall then jumped over him and alpha striked, heating it up. Another AC12 destroyed its Left Torso and a Flamethrower melted the Right Torso. In sorry shape, Marshall targeted the Spider to aid Billy as a AC4 ripped off its Left Leg.

Meanwhile Billy charged the Spider, crashing into it and fell over. The Spider returned the complement. Billy stood up and planted a Chainsaw into the Spider’s head. As Marshall’s flamethrower melted the Spider’s Left Arm Billy took another Chainsaw swing and caught the Spider just above the shoulders, severing its head off!

Western Group – Destroyed.

Sarge and McManlo who were behind the rest (and have slower titans) moved to the west to take some cover from the hills and began to advance north focusing on the Exhuminator. A missed shot set fire to the trees the enemy was using for cover and the Exhuminator began to back up to the northern side of the copse of trees.

Meanwhile the eastern group was advancing in full force, so McManlo and Sarge switched targets to the advancing Revolver, while Billy and Marshall began to run around the northern side of the copse to take out the Exhuminator. Johnnie found a tunnel of sight and crouched down to supply support fire vs. the Revolver and the rest of the Eastern Force. McManlo and Sarge turned in their Northwest advance (which gave them cover behind the copse) and turned due east, running. They didn’t even stop to wave goodbye as they passed the Revolver because McManlo was kind enough to plant two BRGs into its Right Leg, ripping it off. McManlo got into close combat with the Poltergeist1 while Sarge and Johnnie switched targets to the Penetrator2.

All the enemy titans decided that the Minotaur was the biggest threat and concentrated their firepower against the new titan.

This allowed McManlo to go relatively unscathed as he decided to make mince metal of the Poltergeist. Now I don’t usually make a blow by blow account, but I thought this was mildly humourous, as after all this punishment the Poltergeist was still not missing any body parts… (although it was on the ground for almost the whole flurry of attacks as BRGs, Chainsaws and kicks kept him down). Here is the breakdown of the assault (remember most of these attacks do at least 10 damage each):

As you can imagine, the enemy 70ton titan was flaring red through all armour areas, but it still hadn’t removed a body part! It was at this time that McManlo was ‘distracted’ (refer below) and gave up on this Poltergeist. Johnnie took over and took out its RT with his first AC12 shot….

Meanwhile, Billy and Marshall teamed up against the Exhuminator which was shredded to bits. When it was nearly destroyed, Marshall circled the remaining trees to help finish off the Poltergeist One….

Meanwhile, as McManlo was having target practice, the Penetrator2 lost its Left Leg to an AC12 (after some rough fighting) and the second Poltergeist, wanting to save its brethren from the beating McManlo was dishing out leapt into the air for a Death from Above attack. This was what eventually distracted McManlo, who waited until the enemy was above in to blast his Right Leg with a BRG and sent it crashing to the ground. McManlo and Sarge blasted away on the Poltergeist2 when a Tesla Bolt destroyed its Left Torso. It was at this time that Marshall’s NMs finished off the first Poltergeist and caused an engine explosion!

After the explosion, both McManlo and Sarge remained standing, although both took engine critical hits. The Penetrator2 had its arm and second leg blasted off and Poltergeist2 was also severely damaged.

It was at this stage that Billy’s kick finished off the Exhuminator, destroying both it’s Right Leg and Right Torso in the fall. As McManlo and Sarge slowly ran away, Marshall blasted the Poltergeist’s Lower Torso disabling it. The pilot of the Revolver, not liking his chances, ejected. Victory! Sweet Costly Victory! This was some great battle.

Aftermath: I probably shouldn’t have bought Johnnie the new Titan as it left us fairly tight in the budget. This mission was no help as we netted $115,000 but had $200,000 in repairs due to the two Medium Titans both taking the blast in the chest (engine).

After thoughts: Yeah, I admit that the Minotaur isn’t the most unique of designs, it’s basically an Imp with better armour (which is what I wanted). The Bloodhound worked quite well, but it runs very hot. I may design a new titan for Billy or Marshall now, but that means possibly running a quick battle to build up a bit more funds to afford it. But I feel that I need to make something ‘creative’ that will fit the squad. If you’ve read this far into my report, I owe it to you to keep you up to date [:)]

Billy’s Log – Base Recorder

We’ve been stuck on this rock for a few weeks now. Ammunition and other supplies are becoming scarce. We’ve been lucky so far in this campaign that we’re all in one piece. We’ve been called out today to perform a salvage operation. There is a fort that has been hit quite heavily and our commander is hoping that we’ll be able to salvage a few scraps from it before it gets totally overrun by the enemy. HQ also believes that there may be something important in the base. I’m not sure, they don’t really tell me much. I guess I can’t spill what I don’t know. T-minus-10 so I better suit up and get ready to roll out. I’ll be using the Berserker again. I hope we’ll make it through this one, we’re not really sure what the resistance will be like.

Billy’s Log – Berserker Black Box, ETA 5 minutes

We’ve almost approached the abandoned fort. There is a large impassable mountain range to the north and a heavy forest to the west. If the enemy finds out we’re here, we’re likely to take fire from both the western forest and the eastern hills. Also, they could circle behind us and come from the south too if we’re unlucky. McManlo said that intelligence reports two radio uplinks in the area and that we’ll make for those if we can. McManlo has taken the point in our wedge formation with Sarge to his left and Marshall to the right. Johnnie is on the left flank and I’m on the right flank. It’s my job to watch the hills to the east and make sure nothing comes out of them.

Billy’s Log – Berserker Black Box, Combat Recorder

We’ve just arrived at the base. It’s within sight about 3 kms ahead. We’ve began linking our scanners and are continuing our approach. Wait a second, what’s that!? Computer, LOCK ON! A Swift Death has just appeared from behind a hill. What’s a lone 40-tonner doing here? There’s gotta be more around. Switching log to communications channel:

McManlo: Anarchy! Lock on. Be on your toes, this turkey isn't going to be on his own. It could be an ambush, so don’t get to close and be wary of the hills and forest, they may be concealing enemies. Sarge and I will take this little bastard down, the rest of you stay alert.

Sarge: Roger.

McManlo: Heads up, there’s a Bloodhound 2 clicks ahead by the buildings. Johnnie, give him a lock and Marshall and Billy advance up the right side. Sarge, you have a lock on this Swift Death yet?

Sarge: Just about, it’s moving pretty fast though, I’m going to wait for it to turn, then I’ll try to take a leg out.

McManlo: Fire at will!

McManlo: I got it in the leg, it's prone. Sarge, blast it now!

Sarge: Dammit I missed! It’s getting back up. It’s charging now, one more chance….BINGO! took it’s left leg off. It’s a sitting duck now!

McManlo: Forget about it people, we’ll finish him off during mop-up if he doesn’t eject. Everyone, lock onto that Bloodhound before its AC12s do us any harm!

Billy: I’ve got point McManlo, I should reach him in about 30 seconds.

McManlo: Give him cover men, Billy’s going in! Marshall try to heat up the bastard, those Bloodhounds run pretty hot!

Marshall: Locked on. Sending first volley of NMs now!

Johnnie: I hit him in the left leg with an AC12.

Billy: Woah! I took a hit in my LOT! Stabilizing...whew, thought I was going to fall over.

McManlo: Marshall! Where are those missiles?!

Marshall: Scan will be finished in 5 secs, hold on, hold on….

McManlo (mutters): Screw it. (aloud) Firing BRGs. Target’s cover is on fire. Billy, pounce on the bastard when he flees the forest.

Billy: Roger

Marshall: Completed scan, let’s heat him up!

McManlo: Ok, he’s out of the fire, but he’s got to be red hot. Be wary of a titan explosion. We’ll try to down him and take out a leg, that’s make his AC12s useless. I got his left leg, but he’s still standing. Armour weak on the left side. Focus men.

Billy: Scan successful, I’m on him! Party time!!! *BUZZ* *BUZZ* WOOOOHOOO! Got his leg! Titan is DOWN!

McManlo: Get away now Billy. Take a safe distance and watch our for more. Stay out of his arc of fire and we’ll finish him off later. Pot shot him if you want, but make sure your heat stay’s down. Billy and Marshall, Watch the hills to the east. Sarge take the west. Johnnie, find a good vantage point and get ready. I’ll check out the radio uplink. Call if you see anything and explore any building in your path. Otherwise, keep radio silence.

BATTLE COMPUTER DISPLAY: BLOODHOUND AND SWIFT DEATH HAVE BOTH EJECTED.

McManlo: Terrain data uplink enabled. Billy and Marshall head to the north side of the base, there appears to be an armour bay there, use it if it’s working and you have time. Stay alert.

Billy: Hey McManlo! I found some componant parts here.

McManlo: Good job. Stay Alert.

Johnnie: Found a working ammo bay.

McManlo: Don’t think we need it yet. Save it. Okay, place is looking fairly abandoned. Keep your eyes open, explore the rest of the structures and try to find a good defensive spot. Stay tight.

Marshall: Penetrator to the far southeast.

McManlo: try to lure him out of the hills so we can pounce on him. Careful, he’s probably not alone!

Johnnie: I see him.

McManlo: Sarge, Billy is too far north, come with me and take point.

Sarge: Roger

Johnnie: He’s got an Imp with him!

McManlo: Focus on the Imp, we don’t want it getting close.

Johnnie: Lost them behind some hills.

McManlo: Sarge and I will pounce on them as soon as they show. Billy and Marshall, try to get down here, if we can heat the Imp up, it may only get one volley of its Teslas off.

Marshall & Billy: Roger

BATTLE COMPUTER: ENEMY DETECTED.

McManlo: We got a Pariah on a hill behind the eastern forest. Try to find cover for your eastern flank, make smoke I you have to, but keep your eyes out for that Imp, it’s got to round the corner soon!

Billy: Pariah has an Icelord with him, and there’s a Hunchback to the far east.

McManlo: Keep your focus on that Imp and finding shelter from the Pariah’s GMHs!

Sarge: IMP! One click ahead, Lock ON!

McManlo: FIRE!!!! *WHAM* *BLAST* *ZAP* Imp still standing!

Sarge: WOAH!!! Tesla to my CT! Bastards gonna pay!

McManlo: Make him pay Sarge, but back up! I’ll take point, I’ve got Billy and Marshall just behind me. Sarge get to the armour bay if you have to, we’re gonna need the Minotaur to take out that Pariah and Icelord after we finish off these rascals.

Sarge: Roger.

McManlo: BRG stumbled the Imp. Alpha strike!

Sarge: GOT HIM IN THE HEAD WITH MY TESLA! DIE BASTARD! Oh man, it’s still attached. Drat.

Johnnie: Double AC12 to its Leg. Imp is crippled!

McManlo: Heads up! That Hunchback is here, 1 km to the east. Take it down now, then we’ll get the Penetrator. Marshall, keep that Penetrator hot, it wont be able to fire its lasers if it’s red.

Johnnie, Billy, Sarge, Marshall: Roger.

Billy: AC20 hit to my CT! Light Engine damage!

McManlo: Get back and to that armour bay, now!

BATTLE COMPUTER DISPLAY: IMP EJECTED.

Sarge: Damn.

Billy: DCS activated. Getting out of here, should be as good as new after the armour bay.

McManlo: Right leg hit with BRG, Hunchback down. Alpha Strike while I try to keep him prone. Marshall, watch out, Penetrator is charging!

Sarge: Got the Bastard in the Right Torso, he’s HISTORY!

McManlo: Watch out, the Hunchback is going to blow!

BATTLE COMPUTER DISPLAY: HUNCHBACK ENGINE EXPLOSION!

McManlo: Get your locks on that Penetrator.

Sarge, Johnnie: Roger

Billy: Arrived at Armour Bay, patching up.

McManlo: Penetrator downed by BRG and Right Arm ripped off. I think it’s arm got caught in the Hunchback explosion.

Sarge: Got his Left Arm with a Tesla, it’s gone! All it’s got left is a small laser in its head!

McManlo: Time to scan men, and try to get a lock on a leg.

BATTLE COMPUTER DISPLAY: PENETRATOR EJECTED.

McManlo: Well, he’s gone. We still got that Icelord and Pariah to the East. Follow me, we’ll try to stay in cover. Woah, Icelord 1 click ahead. LOCK ON!

Billy: I’m coming back! I’ll shred that bastard!

Sarge: Got the Icelord with Teslas to both torsos! Billy, Marshall, keep your distance, we’ll try to blow the bastard.

Sarge: Got him in the Right Leg too, his armour reading is redder than a Christmas tree.

Marshall: AAAAGGHHHH! Took a hit to the head! I’m hurting bad.

McManlo: Marshall, stay back, eject if you must. BRG to Icelord’s right leg. Leg is off, Icelord is down! Sarge, help me finish it off from a distance, then we’ll hunt down that Pariah.

Marshall: RT and LT of Icelord disabled. He’s history.

McManlo: Let’s go men, Johnnie, use that ammo bay if you need to. Marshall keep to the rear. Let’s move!

BATTLE COMPUTER DISPLAY: ICELORD EJECTED.

Billy: Man, ejecting right into a forest fire, what a way to go.

McManlo: We’ll try to circle towards the Pariah from the north, using these hills. Johnnie reload at that ammo bay to the south and watch out so it can’t get behind us. Radio Silence unless necessary.

Johnnie: He’s here!

McManlo: Run people, Johnnie may not be able to take it out by himself!

Johnnie: He’s moving into the hills to the north.

Billy: I’ll circle around north, I’ll reach him faster this way.

McManlo: Roger, be careful Billy.

Billy (grinning): I’m ALWAYS careful…Spotted him. He’s less than a km away. I’m charging!… I’m on him! *BUZZ* *BUZZ* Got him in the LOT, he’s fallen over. Who wants a chunk of Turkey Breast?

McManlo: Be careful Billy, he’s a lot bigger than you!

Billy: *BUZZ* *BUZZ* Right Arm and CT hit. He lost his balance again. This turkey isn’t going anywhere!

McManlo: We’re almost there. Keep him down if you can.

Johnnie: I see them. Taking pot shots.

Billy’s Log – Base Recorder - Aftermath

Well, we didn’t see anymore enemies after the Pariah. We were able to salvage quite a lot of parts from both the enemy titans and the base. Our engineers were ecstatic about the both the parts and the ammunition that we found. We’re hoping we have enough parts to fix our dropship and get off this rock in the next few days. I think I’ll have two large pizzas tonight before I go to bed. Combat always pumps me up so much and I sweat like a pig. I just thank God that I have leaders like McManlo and Sarge looking out for me. End Log.

Housekeeping: Sorry for the lateness of this report, my computer was stuffed for about a week. C'est la vie. Here's the finale to the Hold Out campaign (again the style is different than previous reports, I'm trying to avoid writing the same way each time...)


Hold Out – Mission 5

Synopsis: We’ve recovered enough supplies to fix up our drop ship and get off of this forsaken planet. Unfortunately we’re a few hours away from completion and a mass of enemies has been reported charging down towards our base. We must hold off the attack. Squad Anarchy has been given the task on defending the eastern and southern sides. Our allies, Squad Sabre will protect the west and north.

Our squad weighs in at 410tons (400-420 recommended)

Squad Anarchy:
McManlo – Sickle
Sarge – Minotaur
Marshall – Inferno
Billy – Berserker
Johnnie – Bloodhound

The Battle:

We began with a few moments to align our squad. We took some cover by some hills to the southeast of our base. With mostly short-medium range titans, we didn’t want to become involved in a long-range fire fight (nor charge the enemy suicidally). Before long, long range scanners identified enemies coming from all directions. This would be our last stand.

Although we appreciate the courage of Squad Sabre, we’re not responsible for their lives, nor their repairs. So we decided to let them worry about the north and west, and we’d take out the enemies that appeared to the south and east. Our first loyalty is to our own Squad.

Pretty soon the air was full of long-range missiles from the enemies assault. Squad Sabre proceeded to charge the enemies coming in from the north/northwest. We took shelter from the Southern enemies behind a hill and focused our attention on a Crucible to the north.

As sounds of the firefight surround us on all sides and the boom of artillery strikes shakes the ground, the tension of the battle starts affecting our nerves. We listen to the screams as one of our allies is killed as his titan’s head is ripped off. We’re wondering if we are going to make it out of this battle alive?

We downed the Crucible while it was still 2kms away, way too far for it to do us any real damage. A Gravedigger closely followed it. We took it down as soon as it was within Tesla range.

Meanwhile as the battle blazed on around us, we noticed one of our allies was being ripped to shreds. Even after his legs were taken off, the enemy kept relentlessly attacking him. Those bastards got what they deserved as our ally eventually had his engine explode taking out a number of enemies with him. He was a brave unknown soldier who inflicted much damage to the enemy on his deathbed. If we were to survive this battle, we will definitely be lifting a glass to his valour. Truth be known, his titan explosion caused a number of nearby titans also to explode. The neutrinos lit the sky!

We had the Gravedigger down and almost disabled (It’s RT was destroyed with a Tesla hit and it’s leg was almost off) when a Gambler rounded the corner of the hill, only 1km away! We finished off the Gravedigger with a laser taking off its right leg and then shot at the Gambler. A BRG took it in the Centre Torso and the pilot ejected!? (McManlo attempted to do a quick scan as no other enemies were within a clear line-of-sight to attempt to discover why the Gambler ejected, but…)

…All of a sudden a Medusa appeared at point blank range right beside us (it rounded the hill from the south!) EVERYONE LOCK ON!!!!

McManlo tripped the Medusa with a BRG and Billy ran out to give it Chain Saw Love. When Billy reached it, he spotted a Guillotine and a Guruni. He did a few quick swings and jumped into the air with the intent on retreating. Although his jump revealed no further enemies he signalled to the rest of the squad who came out of their alcove to charge the Guillotine and Guruni.

Billy was the first into the foray and the first to be downed as he lost his right leg to the Guruni’s Tesla Bolt.

Marshall heated the Guruni up while McManlo dropped it to the ground. We then divided our attack. Marshall would keep the Guruni hot and occupied while McManlo charged the far Guillotine. Johnnie and Sarge finished off the Medusa as another Guillotine rounded the corner (whom they subsequently targeted).

The first one to be immobilized was the Guruni whose leg was ripped/melted off with Marshall’s flamethrowers.

While Johnnie and Sarge were trying to finish off the Guillotine, a number of other damaged enemies came into view, before we knew it we were outnumbered 5-4 (Billy had to eject). But then we disabled the Lower Torso of both Guillotines and left them alone for clean up.

Then the unlucky event happened. As an enemy Poltergeist tried to DFA Johnnie, Sarge hit it in the back center torso causing a point blank engine explosion? The resultant blast severely damaged both Sarge and Johnnie.

We still had a Dragonscale, thrid Guillotine and another Medusa to go. Marshall continued to harass the Guillotine number three, while McManlo was on his way racing back to assist the damaged and hot Johnnie and Sarge from being sitting ducks to the Dragonscale.

The Dragonscale managaged to rip off Sarge’s leg as Johnnie charged the Guillotine. Marshall came to Sarge's rescue and with two punches to the Dragonscale's head, ripped it off! Johnnie also lost his leg and left torso. McManlo was now back in the fray to finish off the Guillotine and focus in a showdown versus the final Medusa.

McManlo took a few shots at the Guillotine, taking out one torso, but turned his attention towards the Medusa as Marshall came flying in and DFA’d the Guillotine (Marshall was great this combat, even out of ammo, he disabled two more enemy titans!).

McManlo charged the Medusa, attempted a DFA (failed) but downed the Medusa with his BRGs, running very hot (red/critical), he continued to carve up the Medusa, keeping it grounded with BRG strikes until he finally took out its Lower Torso. The pilot ejected soon after.

VICTORY! (barely) – Only McManlo and Marshall were still standing.

Aftermath :

Well, with our drop-ship repaired we’re ready to get off this rock! We gathered up the surviving Sabre pilots and took off for home. Billy had a bit of fisticuffs with one of the Sabre jocks who called him a yellow-bellied chicken. Billy defended McManlo’s tactics and let him know that without his leadership, we’d all still be stuck on that rock and either dead or captive. All in all, Anarchy took down about 800 tons of enemy steel, so those Sabres better be appreciative. Anarchy isn’t designed for lots of long-range combat, which added to the difficulty of this particular assignment.

Marshall and Billy were both promoted to Veteran.

Earned $186k after salaries. With three titans disabled, our repair bill was very high ($265k). So we took quite a net loss on the mission. I haven’t yet decided if we’ll repair all the titans, or sell the badly damaged ones off and buy new ones. I’ll keep you posted.
