6th Fleet HQ lost at sea

Post by Maserati »

In January, 142 i sent a 3 CV raid West from Pearl. I caught a couple of convoys reinforcing the outer perimiter, and I put 20 bombs into the Mutsu (on fire). But the prize was hitting a convoy and seeing "Task Force 64 rescuing survivors from Sixth Fleet" no less than four times. I'm not sure, but I think I may have wiped out that entire convoy - 108 SBDs can do terrible things to unescorted convoys.

How badly would the loss of the Sixth Fleet hurt the Japanese side ?

Sixth was going to Kwajalien, I take it? That will hurt repair functions pretty bad. Ouch.

6th Fleet was headed in Kwajalein's general direction.

I'm still a bit tickled at the timing and the whole raid in general. LBA at Kwajalein put a torpedo into Enterprise, but she got back to Pearl with only 12% damage.

you can't kill HQ's permanently i think, so it will return eventually, but yes you did hurt the repair at Kwaj for a while

They still have 4th Fleet at Kwaj, but those are still replacements that aren't going to be bothering the Chinese. Not to mention at least a dozen transports sunk and a battleship burning like a torch.
