3.3 questions/FAQ

Post by lupi »

Have just gotten around to playing version 3.3 after a long lay off from any WIR in awhile. Previously I had only played around with it so I am somewhat limited in WIR experience. Looking for some additional answers/insight on the following.

The latest readme segment says that the automatic equipment upgrade routine for AFVs was modified. Does anyone have any hard facts on what actually was modified from the statements in the editwir.txt file.

Are the enemy CVs estimates really that bad off? Seems like several times I would have enemy units isolated and have their CV values change by a significant amount from turn to turn.

For the West/South front checks, are you guaranteed not to shatter as long as your modified strength is higher than the enemy strength. Are the modifiers for tank division presence automatically figured in for the visible strength totals? the front modifiers for invasion events are /3 for Italy starting in '43 until the allies have landed in Italy and /3 in '44 for the west until they have landed in France, correct? Are these factors taken into account for the displayed values?

I thought quality versus quantity of aircraft was adjusted. Still seems like when slightly outnumbered the hordes of I-16s do a fair amount of damage to my 109's even with an experience differential of 40-60.

Exactly how long will the blizzard last in '41. I have a decent entrenched line from just east of Leningrad to rostov, with most at level 3, some at 4. It will take about 3 turns for him to get adjacent to me in strength (except where I have maintained contact around Moscow). So I am expecting the majority of the attacks to commence at the end of December/first of January.

If I have read the comments correctly, the initial armor pool levels were reduced for the Germans? If this is true can the level at which the CPU will hand out replacements be modified as even with most factories aligned for single equipment production it seems like replacements only trickle to the front.

Do you ever get the ability to build more HQs than you start out with?

Does the leaders ability modify the replacement level of his attached troops. Seems like I've got some guys who sit forever in OKW and OKH at 100% and their squad levels only trickle up, but put the in an HQ with rommel, guderian or the like and they start to receive men faster.

i'll try to answer a couple questions, at least:

Are the enemy CVs estimates really that bad off? Seems like several times I would have enemy units isolated and have their CV values change by a significant amount from turn to turn.

i think it is up to 3 divisions off or so - tank div's are worth 3, the rest 1, and i think enemy readiness and friendly local airpower has something to do with accuracy too. i think the best way to make use of the intel is to tell wheather there is a 'small' corps or a 'large' corps there - other than that i wouldn't count on it for any info!

the real winter season starts dec 7/41, although on occasion you will get 1 or even more rarely 2 blizz turns in nov. it ends at the first of march, but again sometimes there are blizz turns in march. the only hint is keep your readiness as high as possible, because german armies shatter very easily in blizz. i believe you can only do a proper german winter defence once you are intimate with how well the sov's can advance in the winter so germany can take advantage of soviet winter weaknesses. by making the soviets advance to you first as you have done means you are on the right track!!

click on an empty friendly territory, press f6 to see which hq's are available to you. that's all you get!! (germany starts with all of them on the map...)
