Vosslers gambit map 5 - spoiler alert

Post by LarkinVB »

Great map design. Very good idea to airdrop player and to put replacements in the factories. Nevertheless I gues my squad is to good as it was very easy again. Killed one assault breaking his center back even while airdropping. One of the factory replacements never got up at all. I have a feeling that last maps feel easier as the enemy can be defeated 'en detail'.

This map isn't one of the 'harder' ones, It's probably one of the easiest, (a little payback for the eariler surprises by the enemy in previous missions[:)]) but should have atleast given a decent fight. What titans are your squad using? So I can take another look at the mission with your set up in mind.

Some of the enemy titans should be taken out easily early in the fight as your squad is attacking from surprise (and according to plan) but the large numbers of the enemy should eventually give the player some kind of threat even with the staggered approach of the enemy. Team A is your squad's tonnage + 240 tons of allied titans vs. Team B which is 240% of the player's squad's tonnage.

My squad

Mod Tentakel, hero jock
Mod Marauder, hero jock
Mod Kodiak, hero jock
Mod Hurricane, hero jock
Mod Behemoth, ace jock
Mod Devastator, ace jock
Mod Fog Giant, crack jock
Mod Loki, crack jock

The heroes are real ones with 95+ weapon skill. I guess I should retire them [:)]

Holy PG/LRM batman!!![:D]

The 'extreme' heros shouldn't be a huge problem. One of the squads I playtested through the campaign with had similiarly high stats. They had an easier time but not hugely easier. But they were on a much smaller squad (~800 tons)

The very high total tonnage of your squad does make this particular mission a little easier as the AI's tonnage can't be 240% your squad's tonnage. The AI can only out-tonnage your team (allies included) by a factor of 1.86 to 1. Whereas a a 1200 ton team would be out-tonnaged by a factor of 2.00 to 1. (Sidenote: smaller teams actually have more favorable ratios, a 800ton player controled squad whould only be out-tonnaged by 1.85 to 1, BUT a larger percentage of the team's tonnage whould be computer controlled (the 240 tons of allied titans)

There should probably be a ~1330 tonnage limit on your squad for this mission to get the full effect of the enemy's wieght advantage. Maybe I should add that back into the mission breifing.

As for the the 'Rabbit Hunt' map the large amount of LRM/GM/PG would definately give you a big advantage since the terrian is wide open. Assuming a squad with as many LRMs as yours is there anything you can think of would help the enemy team given the terrian? You just brough the 'correct' weapon to the fight... will see if I can get the AI squads on that map to add in thier own LRM titans if the player brings in a cetian amount of tonnage? as well as the addition of shields on the Supernovas.

I didn't think large squad tonnages where going to effect these missions as drastically as they may be doing, may have to put an upper limit on the missions if this is the case and I can't fix it. For now just stay with to the tonnage requirements for the individual missions and see how things go... Mission 6 don't have an upper tonnage limit, but note that Mission 7 and 8 do, don't remember about missions later then that, will check.

Am interested to see how your squad does on mission 6. See if all the long range weaponry makes it too easy[:)]

I can think of better coordination between the encounters. First I had the two Supernovas. Afterwards the Cossacks. The last Sledgehammer was fighting alone. For some unknown reason the Cossacks had a delay standing near the Supernova when the mounted the crest of the crater and did nothing for some seconds. Even they were a bit spread out while attacking.
