No disk in drive

Post by dbt1949_slith »

I have both Spartan and Gates of Troy installed. Now it tells me to insert the cd. It seems no matter which button I chose(cancel, try again, continue) the game starts with no other problems. Not a real big problem but a little annoying.
If Spartan isn't installed the problem isn't there.

I installed SPARTAN after already having TROY installed, and do not have that issue...did you have SPARTAN already installed prior to TROY? If so, that may be why you see the message...just a thought...

I"think" I had Spartan installed first but don't rightly remember. I'll try your way and see what happens. Thanks!

Which publisher version of Spartan and which version of Troy do you have? Which game are you running when it brings up the message?

I have the UK(imported to USA) "Just Play" version of Spartan. And I have the Matrix download version of Troy. I'm playing the Gates of Troy when it happens. Everything still plays okay other than that so it's no major concern.
Thanks!

Very strange. Have you had any other versions of Gates of Troy on that PC?

No,just the one I downloaded from Matrix. I'm using a Gateway model 600 laptop that greatly excedes all the specs necessary.
I also have it installed on my desktop and it doesn't have the problem there. Both use up to date XP.
Like I said , a little annoying but no big deal.Maybe I'll just reinstall it like J P Falcon said if I get the urge.[;)]

Is there any need to actually play SPARTA any longer once TROY has all the scenarios installed?...Seems to me it's a bit redundant...,,

Having both games installed gives me all the scenarios from BOTH games(in one location,Gates of Troy),and I don't need a cd in.Great for laptop gaming!

Oh I agree, as I have Troy and Spartan on my notebook as well...I spent the 10 bucks for Spartan to get the scenarios but I was actually wondering if there is a difference between the two games to make one want to continue to play Spartan...

No, no need to run Spartan any more as you can access all the content from inside Troy. You need to keep it installed though or you'll lose the Spartan maps.

I just now realized that the only time it happens(the no cd pop up) is when I use the quick start method. It does not do it when using the "game menu".
Installation order of Spartan and Troy made no difference.

Matrix might know more about that, as this could be linked to the autorun program. Can you tell me the exact wording of the message that asks for the CD. That might help us to work out if its in the Troy code or the autorun code.

[:D] I have to laugh. Now after the last dozens starts it hasn't happened again! If I remember right it said "please insert cd and try again" with button for "cancel","retry",and "continue".If I remember right it didn't mention any game by name. Oh well.[&:]

The "Quick Start" method is a direct link to the game executable, whereas the game menu pulls up an autorun.exe first. I have no idea why the Game Menu method would not give you an error when it launches the .exe whereas the direct .exe does.
