Multiplayer info

Post by Isacco »

Gentlemen,

I buy recently HTTR and I found the game very interesting. Now I want to try a game against some human opponent but first of all I like to know some basic info.
This is my first attempt with TCP/IP so I'm a novice of this system.
I have a computer not really quick so the first question is: it's important for the game this? It's a disadvantage for me? If the answer is yes is there a solution (other than buy a new PC)?

During the game in line I can pause the game? There are other differences?

Thanks a lot,[&o]

Everyone is a novice at least once! Don't worry about it!

I have played others on slow computers - it is not a disadvantage for the player. So long as you can play at a reasonable pace solo, then it is more dependent on your internet connection.

You can pause any time. The game will run at the slower of the speeds each player picks. There are a couple of differences; 1) you can chat by hitting enter key, and 2) you will love online play - beats playing the AI by a mile!

You can find me (or others) by looking at the "online player info" post at the top of this section of the forum when you are ready to try it. Once you play head to head you will not want to go back...

Just to add a few things to Yakstock's comments. If you're playing 'head to head' the experience should be very smooth and easy to set up. One player hosts, sends his IP address to the other player who joins, all off the main game screen (the radio 'thingy'[:)]). The only problems I've encountered have been where players have ADSL routers or certain types of firewall which seem to interfere. These can be overcome though - eventually[:)]

Regarding pausing during play, online games seem to be played at the slowest speed most of the time. Personally I've never felt the need to pause unless external circumstances demand it ('phone rings, kettle boils etc.).

One final thing. Personal circumstances can lead to gaming sessions being relatively short (I've found 2-3 hours being an average) and not as frequent as you'd desire (2-3 sessions a week again seems the average). Therefore, choose a short-ish scenario for your first battle or two. Myself and Yakstock attempted to play a full 10 day campaign last year and it took us seven months to complete and even then we'd only reached Day 8 iirc (I surrendered [:)]). This is an extreme example I admit but worth bearing in mind.

Look forward to seeing you on the field of battle!
It's Just a Ride!
