Shingle weather

The weather says mud but the map shows snow sometimes (maybe always). Is this normal?

I'm going to play Shingle tommorrow for the first time so this is just a guess, but maybe unless it is a hard freeze condition, it is listed as mud since the ground would be very wet and muddy instead of frozen hard.
Just a guess. I have a feeling I'm not going to like playing the Allies in Shingle; I have looked at the map. YIKES! My grandfather was a Combat Engineer in Italy and he said it was not very fun.
