New take on reality

Post by CrazyEddy »

I've been playing CoG for a couple of weeks now and I still have unanswered questions. I know it's a game, but it's supposed to portray reality (otherwise it would be a game about space marines and/or dragons) and as such I need to reconnect to the real world because:
1. Howizer shooting over friendly troops receive more casualties than they inflict (own infantry becoming invisible to enemy? Or they dodge volley fire to piss the howies'men?)
2. When I chose to retreat (not forced due to morale) and click the retreat button, troops run aimlessly, usually straight in front of enemy's line, not to the nearest exit.

I've got more but I would like to know if reality has warped while I was playing or show me an exemple of those things in "real" life.

Don't get this wrong though, I love the game. I'd recommend it to any wargamer or gamer and I did.

As you said, they run aimlessly, so they may well run into their foes. Same situations always take place in a quick-battle case. Post to a quick battle, my troops invariably - supported by tens of times of reloading the game - take a retreat route leading to elsewhere than a province of mine that neighbours the battlefield. It may really replay soldiers' behaviour as of 17 April 1809, which I am ignorant of. [:'(]

I agree that troops running for their lives will end up choosing the worst possible path or action ( there's gotta be a Murphy's law on that) but not while still formed and under command. I think.

But I seem to have a solution for retreating in order from the field.

When you decide to retreat, use an expendable unit (that means you militia), and send it to the enemy while you bring all your valid troops to the edge of the battlefield. Once there, order the retreat. They "should" all be off map next turn, includeing those insolent supply wagons.

On a side note, I hate the swedes until next game when I get my revenge, hopefully.

Howitzers was a bug., In v1.2, they do more damage, and no longer take return fire.

Ah I see. I wasn't really afflicted with this bug, as this creation has never been on the military agenda. I am inquisitive as to what this class of artillery was designed for - except, seemingly, to add to the nomenclature.
