Should I get this?

Post by bigmed1204 »

Ok SO i hear this game is a must hyave for a wargamer. I have played plenty of IGO-UGO type games, KP, BiN and I am currently deep into WitP. I am in love with wargames. If you could give me some perspective on this game, what it;s system is like, etc please let me know. I would love to have another title to add to my wargame collection.

Hi,

HTTR is like the game you cited a 2D top down wargame where units are represented by square counters.

The scale is smaller than BiN (that I own and like). Units are companies. Both sides have at most 3 to 4 divisions at their disposals (roughly 20 units in BiN, but 200 in HttR).

Most important differences are :
- no hex grid : units freely moves across the vectorized map, occupying a given area and engaging combat at range;
- no turns : action is resolved in continuous time, but you can pause;
- no micro-management : HttR implement a chain of command to relieve you of the burden of controlling all troops in real time. TacAI does a reliable job in controlling the units for you, you just need to get used to all its reactions in detail.

You have a similar question (comparing to other games) answered below in the forum.

And you can always check my site for my comparison to traditional wargames. See my .sig.

Given your taste of games I'd say you might like it if you are ready to learn something new, un-learn principles like : ZOC, CRT, phases/turns and leave the AI take care of the mico-managing bit (but not always : knowing when and how to take command yourself is one of the tricks you'll need to learn for success).

I hope this helps,

JeF.
