US 2nd Battalion Delay at Brecey, 7/44

A German Panzer brigade was attempting to mount a counter attack on out position at Brecey. My battalion was ordered to intercept it, and delay them long enough so that the personell could evacuate. We did better. Supported by a dozen 4.5" rocket launchers and 105mm howitzers; we were able to wipe out the German armored force to the last tank and armored car without any serious losses of our own.

In the end, we had 25 casualties with two M38s and one M4 destroyed. 18 Panzers were destroyed, along with the panzerwagens, halftracks, and over 100 men killed or captured. Obviously they did not want this fight.

It is believed that this is a force that somehow was bypassed in the initial push, as they attacked from our rear area. Thus, they may have been low on supplies, and just trying to break through to their own lines to resupply. The 34th has been tasked to hunt down the remaining men of that force and bring them in. No need to have enemies at the rear as well as the front.

We were able to upgrade 5 of ou M4A1s to M4A3s with the larger gun and better armor. This should help eliminate some of the losses we've recieved. Next mission is an advance on the German forces at Mortain.
