Why no download?

Post by Yogi Yohan »

The original WIR was something like 3,75 MBs uncompressed and 1,2 MBs packed. Will the new version be significantly larger? Otherwise, i do not understand why Matrix's ISP won't allow download distribution. Hell, most of the WAW patches and files are MUCH larger than that.

I don't believe that it is a size issue, as with the small changes being made the game can't be too much bigger than before. According to David Heath, they are working on setting up the program download/installation routines.

I don't see anything that indicates that the Matrix ISP is the cause of the delay. It does look like Ezgamer may have shut down, which could be the cause of this delay, if Matrix was planning on using them for distribution like with SPWAW.

Sorry, I just saw the message on the WIR page itself that the ISP is stopping this.

On the WIR newspage, David Heath writes "The unexpected closing of EZGamer and our ISP not wanting us to release our products for download has made us delay the release until another avenue can be worked out."

Thats why i assumed the ISP had something to do with it. I could understand this for thousands of 300+ MB SPWAW downloads, but for 1,5 MB (?) WIR, i can't see the problem. Still, it might be a policy thing for the ISP. I wonder how it will all turn out?

I really hope it gets sorted out before the weekend . its a bank holiday here and i was looking forward to an unashamed 3 days worth of russkie bashing Image.

But being realistic i doubt it. Its a real shame that it all went pear shaped in the same week, EZgamer going broke unexpectedly was a real blow. Any how i have an idea for david :- Try and contact a pc publishing company in this country (UK) called pcstrategygames , Its a new outfit and they have all sorts of patches etc dowloadable on their site. With the expected size of WIR to be about 3MB ? maybe they can host it for you. They do say that they are 'dedicated to stategy' so its time to see if they hold up under scrutiny.

address = www.pcstategygmes.com
telphone = 020 88755600 ( i dont know the code from the US)

I hope this may be of some use to you

That's a great idea. It would at least start to get the game out there. And we could list our emails here for those who wish to receive the game now Image

No word yet? Oh well. So much for moving panzers through the Russians this weekend. But we all can wait (I keep telling myself that) for such a wonderful, free upgrade of a classic wargame! Best to all!
