10000 metre visibility?

I've been experimenting with an open 'tank country' map for HTTR but can't seem to achieve visibility distances anywhere near the 10km mentioned in the manual.

You can see the situation in the picture (shot taken in Scenario Maker). The test battlefield is completely flat and clear, weather and night modifiers are all set to 100% yet my units (Brit assortment lined-up on Western edge) fail to spot a German force composed of 200 King Tigers and thousands of infantry that ends up about 2.5km from the nearest Allied unit.

Bino trouble?

Muletears,

The 10Km range is a theoretical maximum. Terrain, unit deployment for both spotter and target, day/night and weather visibility all have an effect. On the map used, what was the vis reduction percentage for clear terrain? Where the spotting unit deployed or moving? Where the target units deployed or moving?

Thanks for the quick reply Dave.

"Were the spotting unit deployed or moving? Were the target units deployed or moving?"

The targets units are all moving (see first pic to see their routes), the 'spotters' are all deployed, facing in the appropriate direction, high quality, high morale, no fatigue.

"what was the vis reduction percentage for clear terrain?"

On the test map all the night and weather modifiers were set to 100% (no effect, if I understand the system correctly) The 'clear' terrain stats were unmodified because - AFAIK - you can't alter these in the same way as you can alter other terrain like 'Woods' and 'City'.

The attached pic shows the situation at the the end of the test battle. My Brit force has spent battle 'camped' on Western edge but have failed to spot any part of the large German force moving up to a VL roughly 2km away.

Muletears,

Very interesting. Can you please email me the test scenario and map to dave[at]panthergames[dot]com and I'll check it out when I get a moment spare.

Didn't mean to nag [;)]

The problem has rather put me off mapmaking though. From my very limited investigations it looks like most (all?) community-made HTTR maps are affected (no spotting whatsoever at ranges above approx 2KM) Would seem to indicate an issue with MapMaker.

Muletears,

I really don't have time right now to load up the old HTTR project and test your file. However, i ran up a corresponding visibility test scenario in COTA and I can't see any problems. Here's a screen dump.
