It seems to me the following:

If there is combat in your hex, then any planes nearby will come out to play.

If you turn off air support, and put all planes at rest that might stop interceptions in the area.

But If any air forces have units doing an air mission in the area, then they are likely to intercept. I take it as they are doing their job, so not affected by a rest order.

EG (russian) planes protecting the sea route beween Leningrad and the pocket got involved in a ground combat.

Planes in the area can come from air groups from other command.
A battle showed the air group involved in a battle as X (air group providing ground support to involved units) but one of the squadrons came from air group Y.
Not sure if there is any penalty or whether those fight as under the control of the leader of X.

So if they do get involved despite rest - check for air directives.
I assume if they are at rest before the air phase then they won't commit to the mission, but changing any committed to air directives to rest during the ground phase is too late.
Let me know if I am wrong or you can refine the above thoughts.

If I understand correctly, the problem is that your fighters auto-intercept too much during the air phase?
The solution to that would be to reduce the "Mission AC Pct" for AS.

Q : Can Sov Airborne Brigades still be built up to a Guards RD and if so from what date. The same question also for Rifle Brigades.

And where in the manual (or on this forum) are these details listed.

Thanks everyone

One thing that concerns me is the losses (of russian vs German).
I see numbers in the battle reports of 2 / 3.
I wonder if raising the number would assist larger numbers getting involved rather than 12 FW190 vs 2 Yak1b's.
I would probably accept less intercepts if I didn't lose 2-3 every single time.
Of course then I might need to work out how to avoid losing 20-30 a time.

27.5.4 Converting Rifle Brigades to Divisions
After April 1942, two regular (not naval infantry) Soviet rifle brigades can be combined to form a new division. Brigades with a later withdrawal date can usually not be combined this way (unless the players are using Enhanced Theatre box control).

From March 1942, three Soviet airborne brigades can be combined to create a Guards Rifle Division.

Converted a FRONT to ASSAULT a couple turns ago. Still no increase in Command Capacity; what gives? ASSAULT HQs should increase Command Capacity among the parent and all subordinate HQs, right?

Depends on your dates. Early on there is no Bonus to Fronts.

Need a quick refresher on what it takes to make GUARDS.

Roughly, how many wins? (Assuming you have a "Winning Record")

Can the following units attain Guards status, yes or no?

--Any Battalion-size unit
--Naval Infantry Bde
--Motorized Infantry DIV
--NKVD Motorized Rifle DIV
--Mountain DIV

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, fighters will come up whenever you get close to their air base.

I don't think that can be disabled. Also, would you want to? As it may well be an air raid on the base.

The problem I had was that my fighters were engaged in air superiority missions, without a directive, at least 5 hexes into enemy territory, what looked like the same hex turn after turn, and suffering lossess of 50 to 1. Experience went from the high 60s down to 51. It was as if a ghost air directive was kicking in. Moving the units out of range, or the blessed blizzard, stopped that.

If that is the PBEM game, your opponent is likely running an air superiority directive in his own territory, knowing that your fighters will automatically respond to it as though they are flying CAP. Putting fighters on rest should prevent that.

Sorry to say 50-1 losses do happen more and more in the game now, even with what should be reasonable experience levels. You just can't compete effectively with experienced LW pilots in the 80s and 90s.

IIRC, the number in parenthesis is the number of partial escorts.

Quick Question: When equipment is captured, where can you see the inventory? In WITE, and IIRC maybe earlier in WITE 2, you would see in the production report a bunch of captured stuff

I realize only a few elements are "converted" into something useful, but still would be nice to see the "Green Wehrmacht's" Recycling Program at work

When a new aircraft model comes into production it takes 4 turns for this new model to appear in the selection list when manually changing aircraft.

This does not apply to the AI.

Is there anyway of stopping the AI upgrading aircraft to the latest models in the locked TBs before they are available to me?

The old school answer would be to learn x86 assembly and patch the code. The first modders in the DOS days did quite a bit of that.

To answer HLYA's question on another post, yes there are still Germans playing, not having too massive issues with armies being overloaded (or by 10% max) and yet being swept away in the 1941 winter. Not a pleasant experience although I deserve some of it with one last turn of attacks that completely exhausted a strong set of good units around Kursk and past Stalino (both lost of course since then). I didn't expect blizzard to cut off supplies so completely and Q Ball planned his counteroffensive superbly.

What has also played a role is the absence of reaction of reserves, which probably is about 1 in 10 or worse since the onset of winter on attacks with low odds. As a consequence, excessively few of the marginal Soviet attacks have been repulsed, so he doesn't take the massive losses that go with coming under 2:1 and is able to dismantle my fortified lines slowly but surely.

I thought I had everything lined up properly: strong Pz (sometimes mot) divisions either just behind or at most 2 hexes away, with plenty of movement points, the defending hex either clear or light wood (with infantry in reserve instead if heavy wood), same corps as the Pz or in a worst case scenario same army. The outcome is compounded by quite a few instances of zero support unit (art or LW mixed bat for instance) joining the fight. Leaders are 6 or 7, seldom 5 on initiative, all corps within the 9 points to avoid command maluses.

Why are my reserves behaving like UN blue helmets? Is there something around the number of units attached (art, LW, construction, etc.) that may explain this phenomenon? Any other idea?
