Hi Tom

Another alternative you might want to try is to create a folder on your harddrive and just copy and paste the contents of East Front folder (or whichever game you are installing) on the CD into that folder, patch the game with the required and necessary patches and run the game from there - using the, for example, East Front.exe

Take care and good luck

This latest tip worked. I've now got East Front, East Front 2 and West Front up and running. Here's the odd thing; West Front plays without the CD in the drive [X(] but only on one computer. I'm now going to see if I can get the games up and running on an iMac.

thanks a ubnch for your help.

Tom

(by the way, it sure is a shock going from playing the game on a 15 inch monitor to playing it on a 24 inch flat panel)

Congratulations Tom,

That's fantastic!

You can find opponents for PBEM either at The Blitz (Link or Xtreme Gamer) (Link)

Take care and good luck

thats easy - you need to be pretty fast but when it prompts you for directx turn off your computer. when you turn it back on games installed and everyones happy - the trouble is in the code for directx. if you have a directx version above the one it asks for it aborts the install and deletes your files.

I have all of Talonsofts Campaign series except for the Sealion expansion.  That said, I am greatly hopeful that Matrix releases their reiteration of the series with a complete package of West/East Front, and Rising Sun.  I also hope it won't cost me ~$140!

An unpuched Kingmaker just went for $98 on eBay so things may indeed be bouncing back. I bought a game in Very Good condition the other week for $30 though...

I can testify from experience that relying on "collectible games" as an investment is risky business. I had a board game collection that I thought might be worth in excess of $20,000 - then the bottom fell out of the market and my $60 mint condition games started going for $6.75. Prices have rebounded a bit, but I wouldn't ever count on games as an investment for your retirement (except for the joy of playing them... and later just feeling and smelling them once your eyesight fades and senility keeps you from remembering the rules) [:D]

Can you imagine the nurses talking about the "old guy up in 246" who keeps shouting "DNO...DNO" and throwing thousands of little cardboard pieces into the air and muttering in something that vaguely sounds like German?

Such a sad fate...

Almost as bad as the old gamer clutching a cracked and battered CD case when they can no longer remember what a computer is....
