It's got nothing to do wtih the base or non-base hex, it's purely the strength of the unit(s) in the hex. I'm assuming anything that can affect a units abillity to fight is taken into account, I don't know and not overly interested either as FOG also probably comes into it so I take the shades with a pinch of salt.

Recon, recon, recon and then some.

Always gather information.

The color change could be due to a change in supplies affecting the units strength.

But it's not! I've tested it, where i move the same units that are in a base hex that are currently dark green to the hex next to it where they move light green.

I moved the exact same units from a base hex to a non base hex and their color changed from dark to light. This affected both IJA troops as well as USA troops.

I'll repeat what i said, The change of shade indicates the strength of the units in the hex. You moved from a base to a non base, forts spring to mine, plus the unit are only carrying there own supply, they are still moving and they are not in their target hex. Any or all of these thing affect the strenfth of a unit. For me Colour depth is not an important factor in the game.
