Here is the wonderful Russian Cossack unit that moved right through my armies at the border of France into Spain.

Ungarrisoned defending units only have a chance of defending a depot from enemy units in the territory. Cossacks (infantry and cavalry) have a special ability to have a larger than normal chance of destroying depots in this way.

ahhh... that definitely explains why the Russians are driving me crazy! [:(]

and cossacks take only 1/2 the forraging penalties! no wonder they can move all over!

From manual:

The Cossack Cavalry, and to a lesser extent Cossack Infantry, have an increased chance to disrupt enemy supply depots when they fight a battle in a province – even if the Cossacks lose the battle. Your Cossacks replenish in the spring if their numbers get too low, so don’t be afraid to use them aggressively against enemy supply depots. Try to use your Cossacks to surround enemy units and cutoff their lines of retreat, forcing the entire enemy army to surrender when defeated in battle. Cossacks cavalry don’t do well in charges against ordered enemy units in detailed combat, but they are an excellent support unit, and great for use against disordered enemies.

Stick them in a garrison, that's what i do, if there's no room make it. I want my Armies full of fighting units not prisoners and this gets rid of them(out of army/into city).

I take putting armies in the way will not prevent the Cossacks from going right through them and destroying depots behind you?

How do you stop them?!? (Without having huge armies in every province???)

Here's what i do: I take out one unit, cavalry optimal but militia if nothing else, out of every surrounding(enemy unit) provinces' garrison and i'll detach a corps with leader to hunt the basteed down. Why a corps? You never know what will show up in the province you moved your whole army out of and a corps w/leader has bonuses as you have to rely on quick battles to eliminate that pesky unit.

Note: If you notice a diplomat hanging around the area for the last few turns and you don't think he's bothering anybody...think again...he's probably causing a revolt/rebellion etc.. If it's not my closest ally i send 'em packing ie: Capture/Expel

Should Russian Cossack Cavalry be allowed to operate like this so far from the closest Russian provence?
