Interesting, to say the least.
Wenchow, the Chinese port city at 89, 58, the Heavy Industry, after losing a battle and then having a Chinese unit walk in to capture it with no fighting, went from 20(0) when initially owned by the Chinese to now being 0(1) for the Chinese. According to the mouse over when the Japanese owned it, the HI was 11(0). Is this normal to lose heavy industry where it can't even be repaired?
This is not only common - it is standard - the mouse rollover of an enemy base will add 1 point to each industry there). For your own bases, if you have not clicked on the bases that turn the mouse rollover will do the same - add one point of industry for each type).
As for the 20 HI going to 1, the damage to industry doesn't get assessed and adjusted until the turn after the base changes hands. Same with damage from air raids - the report at the end of the turn does not reflect the actual damage. Next turn will be much more accurate (but still some FOW).
EDIT: I should have read the rest of the thread which covered these points and made clear that the base flipped without battle (although I have noticed a difference if the base flips without an attack being set - like before the enemy arrives or just as he arrives- vs. if the attack was set and the base auto-flipped because it was abandoned by the owning side).
Also, the discussion triggered a recollection (from Alfred I believe) that there is a die roll involved when certain industries are captured (combat or not) and IIRC, it only had about 4 outcomes - no damage, one third damaged, two thirds damage, all damaged).
Not damaged, disappeared and unable to be repaired/expanded by the Allies but Japan could expand it so then it could be repaired.
Oh well, at other locations I have two Divisions isolated at Pucheng and a division with an infantry group about to be isolated with all of the extra artillery units coming to Kukong to play . . .

OK, I have added the latest batch of map modifications (either reported here or in my earlier map update thread).
I am attaching the updated pwhexe file. For those who can help - please install this file and let me know if it looks OK.
Thanks.

Thank you. The Subic Bay to Lingayen Gulf route is fixed, now the baby subs won't bother my water skiers!
If there is anything specif that you want me to check, please let me know.

I have checked the updated map. I don't see any change to this:

Hey all:
Got to wondering if anyone on the board has been in touch with
Kull this year. He was last online in April.
Thanks.
Yes, I have. He's above ground, but busy on other projects currently !!

Well, being above ground is generally a good thing unless you are or want to be a working underground miner!

Okay, something happened that I don't think is usually possible. Two battalions of the 13th Indian Brigade which is part of the 1st Burma Division recombined. One had Indian 42 squads while the other one just had Indian squads. The end result is the Indian 42 squads were fine but the regular Indian squads became disabled Indian 42 squads! I could have waited a turn for the second battalion to upgrade but the button was showing that it was possible so I tried it. I should have save it first so I could have reloaded the turn. Oh well . . .

New revised manual
Not big things here.
4.5 Mouse Over
When the mouse cursor is moved over an icon on the Tactical Map (excluding the Minefields and three Flagged Events
icons mentioned in sections 4.2.3.6 - 4.2.3.7), a summary of information relating to the icon appears in a pop-up window.
Mouse Over displayed information on player owned icons is accurate but the information displayed on enemy icons is
both more limited and the accuracy is dependent on the current Maximum Detection Level (see section 10) on that enemy
icon.
sections mentioned doesn't exist
5.1.4.1
Note that information on enemy aircraft losses is subject to Fog of War and therefore will not necessarily be accurate.
This is the reason why attentive readers will notice the difference in reported Japanese aircraft losses to the left of the
scroll bar (42 losses) compared to the reported losses to the right of the scroll bar (41 losses).
Screen report numbers 135 vs 124
Maybe this could be happened updating the manual and pasting new screen images to make them in line with the patched game.

The December 8th Start (Scen 3) doesn't start on Dec 8th but on Dec 7th however the Japanese Player receives the victory points for USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma being sunk although the attack on PH doesn't actually happen. The turn automatically "slips" to Dec 8th though and the USS Enterprise TF is in PH BUT there is no damage to the airfield and none of the air units there have any damaged a/c.
There seems to be no icon on my main screen but rather i found a launcher file in the Matrix Games/War in the Pacific folder. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to modify the launcher file so that "bleed through" and other foibles don't happen. SO....
1) How does one get an icon on the computer's main screen to launch the program?
2) How does one modify the launcher file?

Right click on the launcher on the toolbar, go to the properties, put in the target something like this:
""D:\games\WITPAE\new WITPAE\Launcher.exe" -wd -dd_sw -SingleCpuOrders -deepColor -archive -AltFont -pxf1368 -pyf768"
Which works for me. This way, I know if I am doing the new or the old version.

When a player makes a ship conversion to carry troops
A button appears on the repair screen to cancel the conversion.
If the player should move the ship to the shipyard there appears two buttons
One to cancel the troop conversion and one to cancel changes.
In this case you get a text overlay at the bottom of the screen.
Seems to me that it might be possible to move the cancel troop conversion
button up to the text above since the cancel troop conversion text is located
in two places top and bottom.
That might have been the designers intention since there looks like a
space was made there for the button.

What pupose do all the new off map ports serve? I tried sending a transport TF from East Coast to New Orleans and it won't budge. Thanks!

Baton Rouge has a size 5 port, but you can not move any ships to that location.

Send it to Jamaica for some rum first, although there is no LI to make the rum.

I'd be a bit of an issue if task forces can't leave New Orleans. A good chunk of US submarine and destroyer escort reinforcements now enter the game there starting in 1943.

I did an experiment with an ongoing game. I was able to get ships from Canada, Jamaica and Balboa to sail and arrive at New Orleans. However, the link between the Eastern US and New Orleans does appear to be broken. Ships sent from the Eastern US don't leave the box and their endurance numbers display in red. Same is true vice versa. Baton Rouge is unreachable from New Orleans as well.

I am really disappointed about addition of new off-map bases.
I don't see any additional benefits in having them, just added complications. They are off-map anyways.
Just wondering what purpose bases like New Orleans, Jamaica, Baton Rouge have over just having Eastern USA?
Not to mention totally useless Middle East bases?
Really? Just explain me why break something that did work?

I was never too keen on the "extended map" option that has been around for years. The one that added a narrow strip of Pakistan and a few bits of Oman. I was never too sure what those added to the game. But then it was just an option. Now it's officially part of the game. Wish they could have added Diego-Suarez in Madagascar as an off-map port. Seems more relevant to the theater than Jamaica.

If it is to make Allied supply situation more "realistic", I don't see the need or why.
Problem for USA was not availability of supplies etc. but getting them where it was needed. That is depicted by e.g. tanker shortage in Pacific at start of war. It certainly does not make sense for me to complicate things by IMHO useless additional off-map bases...some of them don't seem to be even notionally being able to sustain themselves... Doh!
